RYAN NEWMAN (ROUSH FENWAY RACING) FORD

2020 DRIVER FANTASY RANKING: 18th

2019 FANTASY NASCAR RANK: 15th

2019 RECAP: Ryan Newman did what Ryan Newman does in NASCAR… points race. He is one of the best at getting the most out of his cars. Newman seldom dominates a race or runs up front, but he consistently finds his way into the top 10 when the checkered flag is waived. This makes Newman a good fantasy pick for both season long leagues (Driver Group Game and Fantasy Live) and DFS (Daily Fantasy Sports). He finished 15th in the NASCAR Points Standings and had 14 finishes in the top 10. Newman has only won one race since 2013 but his consistency keeps him in the sport.

2020 Preview: Ryan Newman enters his 21st season in the Cup Series and his 2nd with Roush Fenway Racing. His contract is for two more seasons but 2021 is an option year for Roush Fenway Racing so his performance in 2020 will determine if he has a seat in 2021.

Everything is the same for the No. 6 team. Wyndham Rewards will be the primary sponsor and Scott Graves will serve as the crew chief for the team. Newman will have a new teammate in 2020. Chris Buescher replaces Ricky Stenhouse Jr. in the No. 17 car. Newman and Buescher have similar driving styles so I expect the two to work well together and help Roush Fenway Racing compete for a playoff spot. We can expect around 15 finishes in the top 10 again for Newman but it is hard to imagine him in Victory Lane unless the caution flags line up perfectly for his team.

INTERMEDIATE TRACK VALUE (1.5 / 2-Mile Ovals)

Ryan Newman was a hard driver to trust in Fantasy NASCAR on the Intermediate tracks. He had a couple of races where he finished in the top 10 (Kentucky and Homestead) but he also had some races where he finished outside the top 20 (Las Vegas and both races at Kansas). There will be better picks for your Driver Group Game and Fantasy Live lineups at the Intermediate tracks but Newman does have value in DFS contests if he qualifies outside the top 15. (Ryan Newman ranked 19th in fantasy points scored on the Intermediate Tracks in 2019)

SUPERSPEEDWAY TRACK VALUE (Daytona / Talladega)

Ask 100 people which driver scored the most fantasy points on the Superspeedways last year and 0 will have Ryan Newman as their answer. It is true though. Newman finished 14th in the Daytona 500, 7th at the spring race at Talladega, 5th in July at Daytona and 2nd in the fall at Talladega. He also scored 46 place differential points in these four races. Newman is one of the safest picks at Daytona. He has an 8th place average finishing position in his last five races at the track. Newman is also a great pick at Talladega. He has finished four of his last five races at Talladega in the top nine. (Ryan Newman ranked 1st in fantasy points scored on the Superspeedways in 2019)

FLAT TRACK VALUE (Richmond / Phoenix / Martinsville / Loudon)

Ryan Newman has always been known as one of the better Flat track drivers in the Cup Series and his success continued in 2019. He scored top-10 finishes in both races at Richmond, the fall race at Martinsville and at Loudon. Newman will be a good pick for the Driver Group Game on the Flat tracks to save allocations with the better drivers in Group B. He will also have value in DFS if he qualifies outside the top 10. (Ryan Newman ranked 9th in fantasy points scored on the Flat Tracks in 2019)

STEEP TRACK VALUE (Bristol / Dover / Darlington)

The only Steep track where Ryan Newman has any fantasy value is at Bristol. He has a 9th-place average finishing position in his last five races in Thunder Valley. It is hard to pass at Bristol and Newman is the toughest driver to make a pass against. This frustrates other drivers but it makes him a good pick for both season long and DFS games. There are better picks for your fantasy team at Dover and Darlington. (Ryan Newman ranked 19th in fantasy points scored on the Steep Tracks in 2019)

ROAD COURSE TRACK VALUE (Sonoma / Watkins Glen / Roval)

Ryan Newman has a lot of experience on the Road Courses but that does not mean he is a good pick for your fantasy team. He did finish 7th at Sonoma last year but he also finished 25th at Watkins Glen and 32nd at the Charlotte Roval. There are better choices for your season long leagues on the Road Course, but Newman could have some fantasy value at Sonoma in DFS if he qualifies poorly. (Ryan Newman ranked 23rd in fantasy points scored on the Road Courses in 2019)

Best Tracks to for Ryan Newman: 1) Loudon, 2) Daytona, 3) Indianapolis, 4) Bristol, 5) Talladega
