DFS NASCAR Picks for Las Vegas

Facebooktwitter

The NASCAR Cup Series has made it to the Round of Eight. That means there are only four races left in the season. The eight drivers still competing for the championship include William Byron, Denny Hamlin, Kyle Larson, Martin Truex Jr., Christopher Bell, Chris Buescher, Tyler Reddick and Ryan Blaney. It will be fun to see if any of the playoff drivers can secure their spot in the championship race at Phoenix. The South Point 400 can be seen Sunday at 2:30 p.m. ET on NBC.

LAS VEGAS PRACTICE SPEEDS

The Cup Series practiced during a solar eclipse. The track turned on the lights because it was darker than usual. The track also had more grip because of the shade. I guess we have seen it all now.

The Hendrick Motorsports cars were fast in practice, but Kyle Larson had a flat tire after 14 laps (his tire had a bad blister) and Chase Elliott had a flat tire and hit the wall. William Byron also reported a tire vibration at the end of practice. Daniel Suarez had a flat tire and he also hit the wall. Tires could be an issue Sunday.

Some of the teams were able to make some long runs in practice. The tires wear over a long run, so it will be a good idea to see which drivers were able to maintain their speed in practice. The drivers who are at the top of the 10-lap average speed chart and were able to post a fast lap in qualifying are the ones we want in our lineups Sunday.

STATS FOR THE RACE AT LAS VEGAS

The Cup Series has competed in five races on the 1.5-mile intermediate tracks this season (Las Vegas, Kansas, Charlotte, Kansas and Texas). We need to focus our picks on the drivers who were fast in these races, with an emphasis on the last race at Kansas and the race in the last round of the playoffs at Texas. The speed from those races should translate into speed Sunday.

Here are the average DFS Points for the drivers on the 1.5-mile intermediate track races this year and the last three races at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway (the Gen-7 races at L.V)…

DRAFTKINGS STRATEGY

The strategy for DFS Contests is to select three dominators and three value picks for your lineups. The trend in the fall races at Las Vegas is for three drivers to dominate the race. The main dominator leads roughly 38 laps and scores 58 fastest laps (64.1 Dominator Points), a second driver leads 84 laps and scores 40 fastest laps (39 Dominator Points) and a third driver leads 10 laps and scores 28 fastest laps (15.1 Dominator Points). Our lineups will have a good chance of cashing in, if we are able to have the three dominators in our lineup and score the 118 bonus points that they are projected to score.

The drivers with the best chance to lead laps and score dominator points include Kyle Larson, Wiliam Byron, Christopher Bell, Ross Chastain and Martin Truex Jr.

The drivers with the best chance to score place differential points includes Chase Elliott, Denny Hamlin, Brad Keselowski, Daniel Suarez, Kevin Harvick, Ricky Stenhouse Jr., Ryan Preece and Harrison Burton
