The PGA Tour will return from overseas this week (Japan) to play in the CJ Cup. This tournament was played at TPC Summerlin in Las Vegas last year. It has been moved to Congaree Golf Club in South Carolina this week. You would think that most of the field from last week’s tournament would be entered this week after a long trip from Japan, but that is not the case. The CJ Cup is limited to the top 60 from the prior season’s FEDEXCup points plus sponsor’s exemptions. 20 of the top 30 golfers in the World Golf Rankings will be playing this week. That should give us plenty of choices for our DFS contests.
COURSE BREAKDOWN
Congaree Golf Club will be the course for the CJ Cup. The course hosted the Palmeto Championship in 2020 because the PGA Tour could not travel to Canada for the RBC Canadian Open because of Covid restrictions (Rory McIlroy won that tournament). The course is 7,655 in length (about average size) and plays as a par 71. The course has 300 year old Palmetto trees line the fairway and there is a lot of sandy wasteland. There is also a lot of water to navigate on the course, but overall it does not look to difficult. The toughest aspect of this course is that most of the golfers have no experience playing it. They should figure it out rather quickly.

CJ CUP STRATEGY
I will be focusing my picks on golfers with some ties to the course and some who need to play well in tournaments this fall. There is a chance that some of the top golfers will be rusty if they have not played on tour since the FedEx Playoffs. I also like the Europeans this week since this course is a “heartland” designed course. That means it was designed after some of the courses normally hosting the European Masters.
The CJ Cup is a no cut event. That means we can take some chances with the cheaper golfers because we do not need to worry about them going home after two rounds. I will be building a lot of “stars and scrubs” lineups for the tournament this week.
