The first week of the NFL season is in the books and wow was it crazy. Most of the teams who were predicted to make a run for the Super Bowl lost (Kansas City, Cincinnati and Buffalo), some teams looked awesome (Dallas, San Francisco and Miami) and then there were injuries to Aaron Rodgers and J.K. Dobbins. The 2023 season is going to be a wild ride, so make sure your seat belt is buckled on your couch. Now, onto Week 2…
The Minnesota Vikings travel to “The City of Brotherly Love” to take on the Philadelphia Eagles on Thursday Night Football. This game is on PRIME VIDEO and not CBS this week, so get your streaming device ready. There is plenty of talent from these two teams to work with, so we should be able to create some decent Showdown lineups.
Here are my picks for the Thursday Night Football Showdown slate…
MINNESOTA PLAYERS
The Vikings were expected to beat the Buccaneers easily last week and it didn’t happen. Now they get to travel to Philly to take on the defending NFC Champions. I doubt this will be the game when the Vikings get back to the win category, but they should put up enough points to have some players with value tonight.
KIRK COUSINS will likely be slinging it all around the field. The Vikings offensive line is banged up, so running the ball will be tough. I like Cousins as a FLEX Player in both Cash and Tournament Contests…. JUSTIN JEFFERSON is no doubt one of the best WRs in the NFL. He has a tough match-up vs. Darius Slay, but no one can completely shut down Jefferson. He is a good play from the FLEX in Cash and Tournament Contests and Jefferson is worth a spot in the Captain Position in a few Tournament Contests….. The Eagles gave up the 21st-most points to the TE Position last year. That means that T.J. HOCKERSON will be in play tonight. Hunter Henry posted the most fantasy points at the TE position last week vs. the Eagles Defense.…. K.J. OSBORN and JORDAN ADDISON are both good plays tonight. Jefferson is going to draw a lot of attention tonight. That means Hockerson and Addison will have favorable match-ups (especially since CB James Bradberry is out for the Eagles)…. GREG JOSEPH is in play tonight too. The Vikings should be able to move the ball, but their offense could stall out in the red-zone. That will mean more FG attempts for Joseph. I like Joseph only as cheap play in Cash and Tournament Contests.
PHILADELPHIA PLAYERS
The Eagles did their best to lose the game last week vs. the Patriots, but they just had too much talent to let Bill Bilechick ruin their season opener. I doubt the Eagles will have a Super Bowl hangover tonight. The fans in Philly will be rocking tonight and I expect the Eagles Offense to be running on all cylinders. I plan to go heavy with my play of the Eagles players in Tournament and Cash Contests tonight.
JALEN HURTS is the best play on this slate. He is a lock for the Captain Position for all Cash Contests and he should be at least in the FLEX Position in all Tournament Contests… RB Kenneth Gainwell is out tonight, so that means D’ANDRE SWIFT “should” be the lead RB for the Eagles. The problem is that the Eagles love to rotate their RBs, so there is no guarantee that Swift will get all of the work. His price is still cheap enough to take a chance, but I will play BOSTON SCOTT in some Tournament Contest tonight too…. The match-up is great for A.J. BROWN and DEVANTA SMITH. I like both of these WRs for both Cash and Tournament Contests tonight….. DALLAS GOEDERT laid an egg last week and scored zero fantasy points. I am sure some people will be scared to use Goedert tonight based on his Week 1 performance. I will play the Eagle’s TE in some Tournament Contests…JAKE ELLIOTT was the highest-scoring kicker in Week 1. He should be busy once again tonight. I like Elliott for both Cash and Tournament Contests tonight.
