DFS Xfinity Series Picks for Portland

Facebooktwitter

The Xfinity Series will travel to the Northeast this weekend to go road course racing at Portland International Raceway. This will be the third trip to Portland for the Xfinity Series. AJ Allmendinger won the first race and Cole Custer went to Victory Lane last year. Now we get to see what Shane van Gisbergen can do at this road course. The first two races at Portland where pretty good. I expect the same today. The Pacific Office Automation 147 can be seen today at 4:30 p.m. ET on FS1.

PRACTICE AND QUALIFYING AT PORTLAND

The Xfinity Series had a short practice to shake down their cars for Saturday’s race. Portland International Raceway is a 1.96-mile road course with 12 turns. The teams did not have much time to make any long runs in practice. Traffic often skewed the driver’s lap times, so it was hard to learn much from the practice session this morning. We can look at it to decide between two drivers, but I am not picking my drivers based on how they ran in practice. I will look at past results on the road course and the driver’s qualifying position for the picks today.

DRAFTKINGS POINTS AT PORTLAND

The Xfinity Series has raced twice at Portland. I will use that data from those two races and combine it with the data from the races at COTA this year, and the races at Road America and Sonoma last year to help handicap this race.

Here are the stats from the two races at Portland and the last three technical road course races in the Xfinity Series (COTA, Road America and Sonoma) sorted by DraftKings Points….

STRATEGY FOR PORTLAND

There are only 75 laps in the race at Portland (150 miles). That means there are 18.75 points available for leading laps and 33.75 points available for fastest laps (52.5 dominator points). The trend in the first two races at Portland is for one driver to lead 46 laps and score 8 fastest laps (15.1 dominator points). Another driver leads 28 laps and scores 8 fastest laps (10.6 dominator points). I would be shocked if AJ Allmendinger and Shane van Gisbergen were not one of these dominators. I will be paying up for these two drivers and pairing them with four drivers who have a good chance to finish in the top-10 today.

The drivers with the best chance to score dominator points today includes AJ Allmendinger, Shane van Gisbergen, Sam Mayer and Cole Custer

The drivers with the best chance to score place differential points include AJ Allmendinger, Austin Hill, Brandon Jones, Matt DiBenedetto, Jeremy Clements and Brennan Poole
