DraftKings PGA Picks for the FedEx St. Jude Classic

Facebooktwitter

The PGA Tour travels to Memphis, Tennessee this week for the FedEx St. Jude Classic. This is the last tournament before the U.S. Open so golfers will be looking to get their game dialed in before the Major is on the line at Erin Hills.

If you have not signed up for DraftKings, there is no better time than now. Sign up here (DraftKings) and let me help you win some money this season.

I sure did not see Jason Dufner winning The Memorial last week. After missing the cut the week before in the Dean & Deluca Invitational, Dufner regained his form and shot -13 to win last week. This is why Fantasy Golf is one of the most difficult games to predict.

For three week straight my Cash Contest lineup has outscored all of my Tournament Contests lineups. Last week I played 10 Tournament Contests and I would have finished in the money in all of them if I would have just entered my Cash Contest lineups. The lineups scored 443 points and finished top five in all of my doubleups.

Building a balanced lineup of golfers who make the cut has worked well this season. Mixing the highest priced golfers with the mid-tier and lower priced golfers has not worked out as well. Last week Dustin Johnson and Jon Rahm missed the cut. That is why my Cash Contest lineup scored so well. I will learn from my mistake and start to fade more of the higher priced golfers.

*** There have been many golfers withdrawing to prepare for the U.S. Open. Make sure you check your lineups Wednesday night to make sure all of your golfers are still playing this week. So far Jason Kokrak, Keegan Bradley, Steve Stricker, Jamie Lovemark, Cheng-Tsung Pan, Kelly Kraft and Padriag Harrington have withdrawn.***

$10K+ Prince Range:

Rickie Fowler $12,000 is the top golfer in the field this week but I will be fading him in most of my lineups. His price is too expensive and if he gets off to a bad start Thursday he may withdrawal to prepare for the U.S. Open.

Brooks Koepka $11,500 has the best course history but he is too expensive for me. I will save some money and go with cheaper golfers this week.

My two favorite golfers from this price range are Francesco Molinari $10,500 and Phil Mickelson $10,200. Molinari is one of the most accurate golfers off the tee and his game is a good fit for this course. Mickelson is one of the most reliable golfers in DraftKings. All he does is make cuts. Lefty has made 12 cuts in row and should be playing Saturday and Sunday in a weak field at the FedEx St. Jude Classic..

$9K Price Range:

Russell Henley $9,800 is one of the best putters on tour. If he can hit the greens in regulation he should be able to score well this week. Henley has made 8/9 last cuts including a win at the Shell Houston Open.

Daniel Berger $9,300 is my favorite golfer from this price range. He is the defending champion of this event. Berger always plays this course well. He should finish in the top 10 this week.

$8K Price Range:

Kevin Chappell $8,800 is my top golfer in this price range. He enters the tournament is excellent form. He has made 9/10 cuts, including a win at the Valero Texas Open. Last week he made 14 birdies on Thursday and Friday before he blew up on the weekend. He should get back to form in Memphis.

Kyle Stanley $8,400 will be a popular picks this week because he finished 6th last week at The Memorial and 4th at The Players Championship. He should make the cut and play well this week.

Stewart Cink $8,000 is a good play this week. He has made three straight cuts in this tournament with one top-10 finish. Cink just qualified for the U.S. Open on Monday so make sure he does not withdrawal this week.

$7K Price Range:

Ian Poulter $7,600 is my top play in this price range. Poulter needs to win this week in order to qualify for the U.S. Open. He is a big tournament player so he will desperately want to play next week. Poulter has made his last four cuts, including a 2nd in The Players Championship.

Graeme McDowell $7,500 will be in most of my lineups this week. He is cheap and McDowell is one of the most dependable golfers for your contest. McDowell has made 11/12 cuts this year. He also needs to win this week to qualify for the U.S. Open next week.

Peter Uihlein $7,200 is a scoring machine in DraftKings. Last week he made 19 birdies and 1 eagle. He has the second-best average points per contest (79.3) in DraftKings this week. Uihlein has made 13/14 cuts this year. He is a great cheap option for your team.

$6K Price Range:

J.B Holmes $6,800 is way underpriced this week. His driver has a case of the hooks right now, but if he can find a way to straighten it out off the tee, Holmes could win this week. He was playing well until the AT&T Byron Nelson. Holmes is a good Tournament Contest golfer this week.

JT Poston $6,700 is another golfer who is underpriced this week. All he needs to do is make the cut since he is priced so cheap. Poston has made 11/13 cuts this season so there is a good chance he will play the weekend. * Poston just won his qualifier for the U.S. Open on Monday so make sure he does not withdrawal to prepare for next week.

Boo Weekley $6,500 missed the cut in his last tournament but he should be able to play well this week. Weekley has made four straight cuts at the FedEx St. Jude Classic. He is worth a place in your Tournament Contest this week.

FANDUEL

Fanduel restructured their game last week. I decided to try two different strategies to see which would work best for the new format. I selected one lineup filled with golfers who made 95% of the cuts this year. I figured if I had 8 golfers playing the weekend I would be in good shape. The other strategy was a mix of top golfers and bargain golfers.

The team with the golfers who made most of the cuts this year scored 474.1 points. The other lineup scored 518.3 points. I was able to cash all of my lineups but I really did not learn much.

There are not enough top golfers in this tournament, so this week I will be building a lineup of balanced golfers and hope they all make the cut.
