DraftKings PGA Picks for the Memorial

The PGA Tour travels to Dublin, Ohio this week for the Memorial Tournament. The event is also known as “Jack’s Place” because the course if the home of the tournament host, Jack Nicklaus.

If you have not signed up for DraftKings, there is no better time than now. Sign up here (DraftKings) and let me help you win some money this season.

This is actually a course and a tournament that I have been to a couple of times. I would often go to this event when I was stationed at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio. Tiger Woods won both tournaments (2000 and 2001). I doubt he will be winning any tournaments again anytime soon.

The Par 4s are long and the Par 3s are short at Muirfield Village. The bombers who can keep the ball in the fairways will be the golfers to target this week. The rough is usually brutal in this event. The greens are freaky fast so putting could be an issue in this tournament.

Now onto the game… DraftKings really mispriced some of the golfers this week. There is tremendous value in the $7K and $6K range this week. The best strategy is to go with a Studs and Duds lineup (lineup consisting of at least 2 of the highest-priced golfers and 4 of the lower priced golfers) this week.

$10K+ Prince Range:

All of the golfers in this price range should be considered for your contest. Dustin Johnson ($12,000) and Jon Rahm ($11,100) will be the highest owned golfers but they are the two best golfers in the field. Both should finish in the top five this week. I will have more invested in Rahm this week simply because of his price.

My second favorite golfer in the price range (Behind Jon Rahm) is Jason Day ($10,300). He is starting to play much better (finished 2nd two weeks ago at the AT&T Byron Nelson) and he lives in Ohio. It is no secret that Day loves this course.

I doubt I will have much exposure to Jordan Speith $11,000 or Hideki Matsuyama $10,000. Both of these golfers are very good with a great history at this course. If I am going to spend this much of my salary cap on a golfer I want to make sure I have 100% confidence this golfer will finish in the top 5. I cannot say that about Speith and Matsuyama. They have burned me too many times this season. Picking this week to fade them probably means one of them will win this week.

$9K Price Range:

I will probably fade this entire group this week. Matt Kuchar $9,400 and Patrick Reed $9,200 will probably finish in the top 15 but the problem is that they do not score enough birdies to justify this price. These two golfers will score a lot of Pars, few bogies and a few birdies. That does not translate into a high-scoring golfer in DraftKings.

Adam Scott $9,800 has a good course history in the Memorial Tournament. He is a good pivot in Tournament Contest this week over some of the golfers priced above $10K.

$8K Price Range:

Rickie Fowler $8,900 has missed three consecutive cuts at the Memorial Tournament but his price is too low to ignore. I will be using him a lot in my Cash Contest lineups this week.

Emiliano Grillo $8,500 is a good Tournament Contest golfer. He finished 11th in his first trip to the Memorial Tournament last year. He is in better form now that he was at this time last year. I expect another top-10 finish from Grillo this week.

$7K Price Range:

There are just too many golfers in this price range that I like this week. May favorites are Tony Finau $7,900, J.B. Holmes $7,900, Phil Mickelson $7,700, Kevin Kisner $7,600 and Justin Thomas $7,600. Each of these golfers has a good chance to finish at the top of the leaderboard Sunday.

$6K Price Range:

There is so much value in this price range this week that it will be easy to grab 3 or 4 of these golfers and pair them with the higher-priced golfers this week.

My favorites from this group include: Marc Leishman $6,900, Steve Stricker $6,900, Byeong-Hun An $6,900, Ryan Moore $6,700 and Brendon Steele $6,700. I will be mixing and matching a lot of these golfers into my lineup this week.

Kevin Tway $6,500 is a great Tournament Contest golfer this week. He is on an incredible hot streak. Tway has finished 18th, 20th, 5th and 3rd in his last four tournaments. That is tremendous value for a golfer at his price.

Peter Uihlein $6,800 is another golfer that is a good Tournament Contest play this week. His game sets up nicely for the DraftKings game. He scores a lot of birdies and many bogies. Uihlein has made 12/13 cuts and is averaging 79.2 points in DK. That is the 6th-most in the game.

Fanduel restructured their game this week. They got rid of the Thursday/Friday and Saturday/Sunday format and replaced it with nearly the same game as DraftKings. The only difference is that you select 8 golfers instead of six in the new FanDuel game.

I am going to play two contests this week in FanDuel with two different strategies. I really believe the best strategy is to simply pick 8 golfers who will make the cut. My theory is that if you have all 8 golfers on the weekend scoring points you should cash in, even if your competition has the top golfers.

My other team will be a mix of top golfers and lower priced golfers with a lot of upside but some risk. I will see what strategy works out the best this week.
