DraftKings PGA Picks for the Travelers Championship

Facebooktwitter

The PGA Tour travels to Cromwell, Connecticut this week for the Travelers Championship. The tournament usually follows the U.S. Open but last year is was played in August to accommodate the Olympics. This year it is back to the traditional June date.

If you have not signed up for DraftKings, there is no better time than now. Sign up here (DraftKings) and let me help you win some money this season.

Last week was a disaster and I am sorry for that. Who knew that fading the top 10 golfers in the world would be the way to go? Predicting the U.S. Open is more difficult than traditional events. I plan to make up the money we lost last week with some winning lineups for the Travelers Championship.

Usually after a major the top golfers take some time off and relax their minds after a grueling event like the U.S. Open. That is not the case this week. Some of the top golfers in the world will be teeing it up this week at the Travelers Championship. The question is… Should we fade them like we should have last week, or do we play as many of the top golfers in the field and hope they dominate this event like they should?

This is one of the easiest courses on the tour so scoring should be high. You must have golfers who rack up birdies and eagles to win your DraftKings contest. The rough is unforgiving and there are 119 bunkers on the course. You will need golfers who hit it straight off the tee to score well in this event.

$10K+ Prince Range:

What to do with the top golfers on the board this week? All of them played in the U.S. Open and Justin Thomas $10,200 is the only one that competed for the win. Usually it is hard to keep these golfers down but I just have a hard time trusting them right now. Thomas is my top golfer from this price range.

Jordan Spieth $11,400 has a game that fits this course. He never played in this event but he played well in the last round of the U.S. Open. Spieth should play better this week.

Rory McIlroy $11,600 could not make a putt to save his life last week. The greens will be much easier this week and he has so much power off the tee that his approach shots should be fairly easy setting up short birdie putts. I will own some shares of Rory this week but I am not going crazy with my ownership of him.

I am fading Jason Day $11,500 this week. I have been burned by him too many times this year and I learned my lesson. He is the Dale Earnhardt Jr. of golf… lots of talent, not much result.

$9K Price Range:

There are three golfers I really like in this price range. Paul Casey $9,700 played well last week at the U.S. Open and his game fits this course nicely. He should finish in the top 10.

Marc Leishman $9,300 is the chalk pick this week. He is 6/6 in making cuts at the Travelers Championship, including a win in 2012. He should be in all Cash Contest lineups this week.

Brendan Steele $9,000 should also be a chalky play this week. He is coming off a good performance in the U.S. Open (T13) and all he does is make cuts. Steele has not missed a cut in his last 15 events dating back to last season. He is another player who should be in all Cash Contest lineups this week.

Daniel Berger $9,100 missed the cut last week at the U.S. Open but he won the FedEx St. Jude Classic the week before. This course sets up much better for Berger’s game than Erin Hills did last week. I expect a bounce back performance from Berger this week.

$8K Price Range:

I will not be playing too many of the golfers from this price range. Bubba Watson $8,400 plays well at courses he likes and this is one of them. He is a two-time winner and the all-time earnings leader in this event. He has not been playing great this season but I will own some shares of him this week.

What to do with Jim Furyk $8,500 this week? He shot a 59 in this event last year. Usually that would make him a must start this week, but his form has been horrible. His price is also too high this week. Furyk may be worth a roster spot on one team but I would not recommend using a lot of shares of Mr. 59.

$7K Price Range:

There is a lot of value in the $7K price range this week. I have three golfers from this price range who I will be building my teams around this week.

Bud Cauley $7,400 missed the cut last week at the U.S. Open. I hope that drives his ownership down this week. Cualey has three top 10s in his past three starts. He is very good at putting on bentgrass so he should have a good chance to finish in the top 10 Sunday.

Charley Hoffman $7,300 is underpriced this week. For some reason DK always prices Hoffman lower than he should be. He finished 8th last week in the U.S. Open and this course fits his game perfectly. I plan to use him in many of my lineups this week.

Byeong-Hun An $7,100 finally missed a cut but it was in the U.S. Open. The South Korean had made his previous 16 cuts dating back to last season. He is very accurate with his irons and is a decent putter. I expect him to get back on track this week.

Other golfers I like from this price range include: Keegan Bradley $7,300, Emiliano Grillo $7,200 and William McGirt $7,100

$6K Price Range:

Wow, DK really underpriced some of the golfers in this price range. Using these golfers will allow you to spend up for the top golfers in the field if you want to play a “Stars and Scrubs” lineup this week.

There are three golfers I really like from this price range. Web Simpson $6,900 has a great course history at the Travelers Championship and he may be the most underpriced golfer in the field. He missed the cut on the number last week at the U.S. Open but he was playing good golf before that. I expect him to play well this week.

Adam Hadwin $6,800 is going to be in many of my lineups this week. All he does is make cuts. He finished 60th last week in the U.S. Open and he should make the cut and finish in the top 25 this week.

Lucas Glover $6,600 is another golfer that is too cheap this week. He missed 2/3 cuts but this course fits his game better than the U.S. open and the Dean & Deluca Invitational. I expect Glover to get back to form this week at the Travelers Championship.

Other golfers I like from this price range include: Chez Reavie $6,900, Danny Lee $6,800, Jhonattan Vegas $6,400 and Ken Duke $6,400.

My super sleeper golfer is once again Try Mullinax $6,500. I recommended him for the U.S. Open and he made the cut and finished 9th. He is playing good golf right now and Mullinax is a steal at $6,500.
