Driver Group Game Picks for Bristol

Facebooktwitter

It’s Bristol Baby! It is time for some high-speed, action-packed, racing on the high-banks of Bristol Motor Speedway. This is one of my favorite tracks, although it can be rough on your fantasy team if there is a big wreck in the race. There is little room to hide at this track. I selected the drivers with a history of running well at this track, now all we need is better luck then what we have had the past two races. The Food City 500 can be seen Sunday at 2 p.m. ET on Fox Sports 1.

One of the changes this season for the Driver Group Game is that your league commissioner has the ability to change to number of allocations for each driver and can place drivers into any group they choose. My picks will be based on the default settings (8 allocations per driver and the original group settings).

Here are my picks for Bristol…

Driver Group Game A Picks

Kyle Busch (7): Busch qualified 17th and that is not ideal but it does not change the value Busch has for the race Sunday. Busch has 7 wins at Bristol and 6 of them have come when Busch qualified outside the top 12. The No. 18 car was fast in practice. Busch posted the 5th fastest lap with the 6th fastest 30-lap average speed. Busch has won 2 of the last 3 races in Thunder Valley. There is a good chance he will be in Victory Lane Sunday.

Group A Driver Rankings: 1) Kevin Harvick 2) Joey Logano 3) Kyle Busch 4) Kyle Larson 5) Chase Elliott 6) Martin truex Jr. 7) Brad Keselowski

Driver Group Game B Picks

Jimmie Johnson (8): Johnson will have a lot of momentum after his top-5 finish at Texas. Johnson has a series-best 8.3 average finishing position in the last 10 races at Bristol. Johnson has finished 8 of his last 9 races in Thunder Valley in the top 11. There is a good chance he will do it again Sunday. Johnson posted the 2nd fastest speed in final practice with the 3rd fastest 20-lap average speed. This is a good week to use an allocation with Johnson and save our top drivers for the larger tracks.

Erik Jones (7): Jones has been fast all weekend. He was fastest in the morning practice, 11th fastest in final practice with the 5th fastest 20-lap speed. Jones qualified 4th which means he will have a premium pit stall. He knows how to race up front at this track. Jones led 260 laps and finished 2nd at Bristol in 2017. Jones seems motivated to win a race after people were asking him about being on the hot seat at Joe Gibbs Racing since his contract ends at the end of the season. I expect Jones to go out and prove the critics wrong Sunday.

Group B Driver Rankings: 1) Erik Jones 2) Ryan Blaney 3) Clint Bowyer 4) Jimmie Johnson 5) Denny Hamlin 6) Daniel Suarez 7) Ricky Stenhouse Jr. 8) Austin Dillon 9) Ryan Newman 10) Aric Almirola

Driver Group Game C Picks

Matt DiBenedetto (8): This is the race to have DiBenedetto in your lineups. He lives for the races at Bristol. I am sure he will have a cool costume picked out for driver introductions and a fast racecar for the Food City 500. DiBenedetto qualified 21st, had the 6th fastest speed in final practice with the 5th fastest 50-lap and 30-lap average speed. Crew chief Mike Wheeler knows how to call a race at Bristol and DiBenedetto has the skills to hang in the top 15 this week. I will use my first allocation with DiBenedetto Sunday.

Group C Driver Rankings: 1) Matt DiBenedetto 2) Ty Dillon 3) Ryan Preece 4) Chris Buescher 5) Daniel Hemric
