The MENCS competes at Dover International Speedway this week in the AAA 400 Drive for Autism. Allocations are very important in the Driver Group Game but you will need to use some of your best drivers this week. The races at the Monster Mile are usually dominated by the top organizations in the sport. .
Here are my picks for Dover…
GROUP A
Kyle Larson (8): Larson won me the pole and 10 bonus points. Now I expect him to lead the most laps and finish in the top 3. Larson has not finished outside the top 3 in a spring race at Dover since 2014 (his first race at the track). I picked Kyle Busch to win the race but I am going to take the guaranteed 5 bonus points for leading a lap from Larson and save my allocation with Busch for the larger tracks.
Group A Rankings: 1) Kyle Busch 2) Kevin Harvick 3) Kyle Larson 4) Martin Truex Jr. 5) Jimmie Johnson 6) Brad Keselowski 7) Denny Hamlin 8) Joey Logano
GROUP B
Chase Elliott (7): Elliott should be the best pick in Group B. He has never finished outside the top 5 at the Monster Mile. Elliott qualified 6th and I expect him to run in the top 5 Sunday. Elliott should have won the last race at Dover. I would not be surprised if Elliott makes his first trip to Victory Lane this week.
Clint Bowyer (7): I wanted to use Daniel Suarez in this spot and save an allocation with Bowyer but I cannot do it. Bowyer has one of the fastest cars this weekend. He was 3rd fastest in final practice with the fastest 10-lap average speed. His 20-lap speed was 2nd-fastest. It would not surprise me if Bowyer won the race Sunday. His car is that good.
Group B Rankings: 1) Chase Elliott 2) Clint Bowyer 3) Aric Almirola 4) Erik Jones 5) Kurt Busch 6) Ryan Blaney 7) Daniel Suarez 8) Ricky Stenhouse Jr.
GROUP C
William Byron (8): Byron said in the Media Center this week that he prepared for this race by spending a lot of time with Jimmie Johnson and Chase Elliott in the simulator. Those are two pretty good teachers for Dover. It looks like he learned something. Byron was 8th fastest with the 6th-fastest 10-lap speed in final practice. I will roll the dice with Byron Sunday.
