Driver Group Game Picks for Michigan

The MENCS head back to Michigan International Speedway this week for the Consumers Energy 400. This will be the second trip to the Irish Hills in the last two months for the MENCS. Stewart-Haas Racing dominated the last race at Michigan but it looks like some other teams have fast cars this weekend. The race Sunday can be seen at 2:30 PM ET on NBC Sports Network.

Kyle Larson (7): My choices in Group A were Kevin Harvick and Kyle Larson. I picked Harvick to win the race but I only have 3 allocations left with him. I will have Harvick for the playoffs and go with Larson at his best track. Larson has won 3 of the last 5 races at Michigan and he liked his car in practice. He starts 17th but I am not worried about it. Larson ranks No.1 in green flag passes at Michigan so he should have no problem making his way to the front.

Group A Driver Rankings: 1) Kevin Harvick 2) Kyle Busch 3) Kyle Larson 4) Joey Logano 5) Martin Truex Jr. 6) Denny Hamlin 7) Brad Keselowski 8) Jimmie Johnson

I really wish I had Erik Jones and Ryan Blaney. They look like the two best cars in Group B and two of the best cars in the race. I would use them over my picks and I would not worry about their allocations.

Clint Bowyer (2): Bowyer won the race at Michigan in June. He had a really fast car. Bowyer qualified 12th, had a 3.59 average running position, led 8 laps and held of Kevin Harvick for the win as the rain poured down. Bowyer had the same setup as Kevin Harvick in practice. He really liked his car. Bowyer was 8th fastest with the 7th best 10-lap speed. He starts 16th but he should finish inside the top 10.

Jamie McMurray (6): I am taking a chance with McMurray this week. My other two choices (Kurt Busch and Chase Elliott) had a lot of problems in practice. Michigan ranks as the No. 1 track for McMurray. He has finished 5 races in a row at the track in the top 10. In June he qualified 24th, had a 9.22 average running position and finished 10th. I expect McMurray to run well this week.

Group B Driver Rankings: 1) Erik Jones 2) Ryan Blaney 3) Clint Bowyer 4) Kurt Busch 5) 6) Chase Elliott 7) Jamie McMurray 8) Aric Almirola 9) Daniel Suarez 10) Ryan Newman

Alex Bowman (4): Bowman really looks good this week. The No. 88 team spent all of Friday’s practice in race-trim, yet they went out and qualified 10th. Bowman was fast in both practice sessions Saturday. The No. 88 car was 3rd fastest in final practice with the 9th best 10-lap average speed. Hendrick Motorsports is starting to run well. I expect Bowman to finish in the top 10 Sunday.

Group C Driver Rankings: 1) Alex Bowman) William Byron 3) Chris Buescher 4) Darrell Wallace Jr. 5) David Ragan

Good luck this week!
