The NASCAR Cup Series will return at Atlanta Motor Speedway Sunday. The series last competed at this track March. AMS always wears out tires quickly but the track should be even slicker Sunday since the temperatures will be a lot warmer than they were in March. A lot has changed since the last race at Atlanta so we could see some new drivers up front. The one thing that hasn’t changed is the speed in the No. 5 car. Kyle Larson destroyed the field in the last race at Atlanta and he is still the fastest driver in the series.
The race Sunday is 100 miles shorter than the race at Atlanta in March. There was only one caution in the last 100 miles of the race in March (Fluid on the track on lap 221), so not a lot happened in the extra laps in the race. The extra laps did allow Ryan Blaney to catch Kyle Larson though. I expect the Hendrick Motorsports cars to dominate the race again at Atlanta.
I used the Driver Rankings and Average Running Position from the last race at Atlanta, the Driver Rating for the races on the 1.5-mile tracks this season, Driver Rating on the high tire wear tracks (Atlanta, Homestead, Darlington, Las Vegas and Kansas) and Driver Ranking in the races using the 550 HP aero package.
Here are the Driver Rankings for the Quaker State 400…
