Driver Rankings for Michigan

Facebooktwitter

The Cup Series will travel to the Irish Hills of Michigan this week to compete in the Firekeepers Casino 400 at Michigan International Speedway. There are only two races left (Michigan and Daytona) before the field of 16 is set for the 2021 playoffs. The race has to be better than what we had last week at Indianapolis. The Firekeepers Casino 400 can be seen Sunday at 3 p.m. ET on NBCSN.

This will be the first race on a 2-mile oval in 2021. The teams will be back to the 550 HP aero package with the tapered spacer. The NASCAR schedule is usually filled with intermediate tracks (1.5 and 2-mile ovals), but they decided to replace many of the intermediate tracks with road courses this season. There have only been five races (Homestead, Las Vegas, Atlanta twice and Kansas) on intermediate tracks this year. We have only had one race using the 550 HP aero package on a intermediate track since the beginning of May (the race at Atlanta). So there is not a lot of data to use for our picks this week.

Some teams have totally ignored their 550 HP aero package this year since there are only 3 tracks in the playoffs using this package and only one until the Round of Eight. I based my rankings on the drivers who have run well on the intermediate tracks this year. I also factored in some of the data from the two races at Michigan last year.

Here are the Driver Rankings for the Firekeepers Casino 400
