The MENCS will compete at Sonoma Raceway this week in the Toyota / Save Mart 350. The teams received a much needed week off before traveling across the country for the first road course race of the season. The race can be seen Sunday evening at 3 pm ET on Fox Sports 1.
Each week I use different stats in my model to create the best rankings possible to give you an edge on the completion. This week I used the drivers performance in the 2018 season, driver rating at Sonoma, average finishing position at Sonoma, results from the road courses the last 2 seasons andand quality pass % at Sonoma (we want drivers who can pass other cars).
My early week pick for the pole is Martin Truex Jr. The No. 78 car has won 3 poles this season. Truex has qualified 3rd in the last 2 races at Sonoma. There have been 5 different pole winners in the last 5 races at Sonoma. This week should be Truex’s turner to start from the No. 1 position.
