Early Week Driver Rankings for Texas

Facebooktwitter

Finally we got some drama in the 2018 MENCS Playoffs. I knew the drivers could not play nice for 10 weeks. The series will now head back to Texas for the AAA Texas 500. The last race in the Lone Star State was dominated by Kyle Busch. Will this be the week the No. 18 joins Joey Logano in the championship race at Homestead or will someone else take the checkered flag this week?  The race can be seen Sunday at 3pm ET on NBC Sports Net.

The MENCS will be back to a normal schedule this week. There will be one practice Friday (2pm ET on NBCSN) and two practices Saturday (12:30pm on CNBC and 3pm ET on NBCSN). Qualifying will be Friday evening at 7pm ET on NBCSN.

My early week pick for the pole is Kurt Busch. The No. 41 team will have a hard time making it to Homestead on points. Busch will need to win at Texas or Phoenix and the best way to start the week is by winning the pole. Busch has won the pole for the last two races at Texas so he knows how to get it done. The Stewart-Haas Racing cars have been fast so I will pick the older Busch for the pole Friday night.

Each week I use different stats in my model to create the best rankings possible to give you an edge on the completion. This week I used the results from the 1.5 track races, driver ranking at the 1.5-mile tracks, average finishing position at Texas,  driver ranking for the season, and driver ranking over the last 6 races (We want drivers who have momentum).

Here are the early week driver rankings for Texas…
