Fantasy Golf Picks for Bank of Utah Championship

Facebooktwitter

The PGA Tour traveled to Utah for the first time in 60 years last year when it hosted the Bank of Utah Championship in 2024. I am sure the people in Utah are happy to see the PGA Tour tee it up in Ivins, Utah (just outside of St. George), but it sucks that they do not get to see the best golfers in the world this week. Only two of the top-50 golfers in the world are entered into the Bank of Utah Championship. These golfers are not as consistent as the top golfers in the world and that is going to make it more difficult to select the top golfers for our DFS lineups Sunday.

COURSE BREAKDOWN

The Bank of Utah Championship will be played at the Black Desert Resort in Ivins, Utah. This is one of the newer courses on the PGA Tour, and it will play at elevation (3,180 feet above sea level) this week. It is a par-71 which will play 7,421 yards in length. Black Desert Resort has four par-3’s and three par’s 5. Two of the par-4’s are drivable for most of the golfers in the field and all of the par-5’s are reachable in two shots.

The fairways are some of the widest on the PGA Tour and the greens are huge. The only defense for this course is the jagged, black, lava rocks that sit just outside the fairways. This is a pretty straight-forward course, so I expect the scoring to be low this weekend.

BLACK DESERT STRATEGY

Winning your DFS Contest in the fall PGA Tour has proven to be quite difficult the last two seasons. The field for the Bank of Utah Championship is pretty even. The golfers priced above $9K are not really “stars” and the golfers priced below $7.5K are not much different than the golfers priced in the $9K and $8K price ranges. It is going to be really tough this week because the field is pretty much wide open. I decided I am going to be playing a lot of “stars and scrubs” lineups in my Tournament Contests at the Bank of Utah Championship.

DRAFTKINGS CASH CONTEST LINEUP

JACKSON KOIVUN ($10,800): Koivun is one of the most talented young golfers on the PGA Tour. We are going to be using him a lot in our 2026 / 2027 lineups. He ranks No. 1 in SG Tee-to-Green, No. 4 in SG Approach, No. 3 in Ball-Striking and No. 1 overall in the Key Stats. Koivun is coming off a 5th place finish in Baltimore and he already has a win on his resume (3M Open). He should have a great chance to win again Sunday.

BEN JAMES ($9,900): I will pair the best young golfer on the PGA Tour with a golfer who may be the second-best young golfer on the tour. James enters this tournament red hot. He finished 2nd in Baltimore, 3rd at the Wyndham Championship and 4th at the Puntacana Championship. James leads the PGA Tour in Fairways Hit and Greens in Regulation. His accuracy should keep him near the top of the leaderboard this week.

BEN KOHLES ($7,800):  I like using safe golfers in my Cash Contest lineups, so Kohles gets the spot. He has made 13 cuts in a row between the Korn Ferry Tour and the PGA Tour. In his last 24 rounds, he is No. 2 in SG Total and No. 4 in SG Putting. Kohles has played this tournament twice and made the cut both times. He is a good pick for Cash and Tournament Contest lineups in Utah.

STEPHAN JAEGER ($7,700): I usually play Jaeger in Tournament Contest lineups because he tends to be hit or miss, but he has some of the best course history at the Black Desert Resort. Jaeger finished 2nd in this tournament in 2024 and he finished 11th last year. He knocked off the rust with a made cut in Baltimore two weeks ago. Jaeger should feel right at home at one of his best courses this week.

PATRICK RODGERS ($7,000): Rodgers is typically a lot better on the fall tour than he is when the stars start to tee it up in January and February. Rodgers has played the Bank of Utah Championship twice. He finished 11th in 2024 and 27th last year. He has a few courses where he plays well. This is one of them, so Rodgers gets the spot in my Cash Contest lineup this week.

JUSTIN LOWER ($6,700): I typically do not like to dip down into the $6K range for my Cash Contest lineups, but is there really a big difference between the lower-$7K and upper $6K golfers this week? I do not think so. Lower was really good at this tournament last year. He finished 3rd and he also finished 33rd two weeks ago in Baltimore. Lower has the course history and the recent form I am looking for in a $6K golfer this week.

DRAFTKINGS TOURNAMENT CONTEST LINEUP

MATT WALLACE ($9,700): I am going to have Jackson Koivun and Ben James in a lot of my Tournament Contest lineups, but I will try to win this contest by fading the chalk at the top. Wallace is one of the best international golfers on the tour. He ended the 2026 season red hot. Wallace finished 5th at the Rocket Classic and 7th at the Wyndham Championship in his last two starts on the PGA Tour. I will take a chance with Wallace and hope he picks up where he left off in August.

KEVIN YU ($9,200): Guess who ranks No. 2 in the Key Stats this week? Not me, but Yu. He ranks No. 8 in SG Tee-to-Green, No. 7 in SG Approach, No. 9 in Scrambling, No. 8 in SG Putting and No. 5 in Birdie or Better %. Yu finished 15th in this tournament last year. His form is a lot better right now, so I expect a top-10 finish from Yu this week.

RICO HOEY ($8,200): I always like playing Hoey in these weaker fields. He has a history of showing up when the stars are taking the weekend off. Hoey has played this tournament twice He finished 21st in 2024 and 2nd last year. He has made six cuts in a row on the PGA Tour. His accuracy off-the-tee and with his irons should keep him inside the top-15 Sunday.

CHRIS KIRK ($8,100): The stats love Captain Kirk and his recent form is pretty good too, so I will take a chance with Kirk in my Tournament Contest lineup. Kirk ranks No. 3 in SG Tee-to-Green, No, 2 in SG Approach and No. 10 overall in the Key Stats. His weakness is his putter. Kirk does putt better on Bent Grass and that is all he needs to do in order to finish near the top of the leaderboard Sunday.

HAO-TONG LI ($7,500): H-T Li is always a good option for Tournament Contests. When he is good, he is usually really good. Li just finished 10th in Baltimore two weeks ago. I am hoping that form carries over in the Utah. Li gains a half of a stroke more putting on Bent Grass than he does on the other surfaces, so I will take a chance with him this week.

ZACHARY BAUCHOU ($7,200): Bauchou enters the Bank of Utah Championship in decent form. He finished 24th two weeks ago in Baltimore and he finished 14th at the Wyndham Championship. He ranks as the third best golfer around the greens (scrambling and putting). I just need him to stay out of the rocks and he should be a good play this week.
