The Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series will travel back to Charlotte Motor Speedway this week for Bank of America 400. This will not be your typical race on at Charlotte. The track has been turned into a Roval (half-oval, half-road course). Many teams have feared this race and many fans have been waiting in excitement. The race can be Sunday at 2pm ET on NBC.
2 Playoff Drivers
My picks for Playoff Drivers this week will be Kurt Busch and Chase Elliott. I dug myself a hole in this game and I cannot get out of it by using the same drivers as everyone else. I think Kyle Busch and Martin Truex Jr. will be used by most teams. Both drivers are good picks but I think they may sacrifice Stage points in order to get into position in the final stage. Kurt Busch and Elliott need points so they will likely try to score as many Stage points as possible and they should be fast enough at the end of the race to finish in the top 10. If you want to play it safe, use Kyle Busch and Truex. I will take the lower ownership with Kurt Busch and Elliott and hopefully pass some people in the standings.
2 Non-Playoff Drivers
My two Non-Playoff Drivers will be AJ Allmendinger and Jamie McMurray. I have heard many people say that the Charlotte Roval races more like the Daytona road course than Watkins Glen or Sonoma. No drivers in the garage have more experience on the Daytona road course than Allmendinger and McMurray and both have performed very well against the best drivers in the world. Allmendinger starts 2nd and McMurray starts 8th. Both drivers should score Stage points and finish in the top 12.
My Garage Driver will be Martin Truex Jr. It was a tough decision to choose between Kyle Busch and Truex. I asked myself, “Who can stay out of trouble and not over-driver the car better between the two drivers.” My answer was Truex. He has finished 1st, 1st and 2nd in the last 3 road course races. He is my pick to win Sunday.
