This is the week the 12 playoff drivers having been fearing… a trip to Talladega Superspeedway with their season on the line. Some drivers are better at restrictor-plate racing than others, but ultimately their fate is in the hands of the NASCR Gods. You can see who is able to survive “The Big One” and make their way to Victory Lane in the 1000Bulbs.com 500 Sunday at 2pm ET on NBC.
2 Playoff Drivers
My two Playoff Drivers will be Brad Keselowski and Kurt Busch. Keselowski has won every Stage at Talladega since NASCAR incorporated Stage racing into their scoring system. That is the type of driver we want in our lineup in a game that awards Stage points. Busch won the pole and he will do his best to lead as many laps as possible to score playoff points. Busch finished 2nd in the April race at Talladega and he said the car this week is better.
2 Non-Playoff Drivers
My two Non-Playoff Drivers will be Denny Hamlin and Ricky Stenhouse Jr. Hamlin will start 10th and Stenhouse 12th. Both of these drivers should spend a lot of time in the top 10 and score a lot of Stage points. Hamlin and Stenhouse rank 4 and 5 in driver rating on the restrictor-plate tracks and the best from the non-Playoff Drivers. They “should be” the safest picks from this group of drivers Sunday.
My Garage Driver will be Ryan Newman. I want one of the safest picks in field and that happens to be Mr. Newman. He has finished 8th, 9th, 8th, 6th, 11th, 2nd and 5th in his last 7 restrictor-plate races. He ranks #2 (behind Aric Almirola) in avoiding wrecks on the Superspeedways since 2014. My luck with Newman on my Fantasy teams sucks but I am a numbers guy and the stats say…”Play Newman this week.”
