KEVIN HARVICK (STEWART-HAAS RACING) FORD

2020 DRIVER FANTASY RANKING: 4th

2019 FANTASY NASCAR RANK: 4th

2019 RECAP: It was another boring year for Kevin Harvick in the Cup Series. All he did is win three races, finish 15 races in the top five (42%), 26 races in the top 10 (72%) and finished third in the Cup Series Point Standings. You know… the same stuff he does each year at Stewart-Haas Racing. Harvick did take a slight decline in 2019. His top five finishes dropped from 23 in 2018 to 15 last year. The top-10 finishes dropped from 29 to 26. Harvick said that Stewart-Haas Racing entered the season with the totally wrong setup for the 2019 aero package. It took them a while to get rolling but once they figured it out, SHR started to score the typical finishes that we are used to seeing from their teams.

It took Harvick 20 races before he found Victory Lane last year. It is not that he was running poorly, it was just a fact that the Stewart-Haas Racing Fords seemed to be a bit behind the Toyota’s in speed. Harvick won races at Loudon and Indianapolis. He continues to be one of the best drivers in the series on the Flat tracks. He scored the most fantasy posts on the Intermediate tracks and that was with only two wins (Michigan and Texas). The season has to be considered a success anytime a team makes it the Championship Four at Homestead, but it wasn’t if you ask crew chief Rodney Childers and Harvick. Their goal is to win the trophy in Miami. Anything short of that is a failure.

Fantasy NASCAR 2019 Season Review: Kevin Harvick

2020 Preview: Stewart-Haas Racing moved around some of their crew chiefs but they decided to leave the pairing of Rodney Childers and Kevin Harvick alone. Why try to fix something that is not broken. This dual has to be considered the best driver-crew chief pairing in the sport, now that Cole Pearn retired (Adam Stevens and Kyle Busch is 1B to Childers and Harvicks 1A). The No. 4 team will once again be one of the best in the sport. The reason why Harvick is ranked fourth, and not in the top spot is because of his age. Harvick is 44 years old and father time has an undefeated record. Sooner or later age is going to catch up to him. It did for Richard Petty, Darrell Waltrip, Jeff Gordon and Tony Stewart. Harvick should have at least one more top-five season in him though.

INTERMEDIATE TRACK VALUE (1.5 / 2-Mile Ovals)

Kevin Harvick scored the most fantasy points on the Intermediate tracks last year. What really helped him out was his ability to win the pole and score bonus points for your fantasy team. Harvick won races Michigan and Texas and he finished in the top five at Atlanta, Las Vegas (twice), Auto Club and Homestead. His 627 laps led on the Intermediate tracks were the most in the series. Harvick will once again be one of the best picks for your season long games (Fantasy Live and the Driver Group Game) and for DFS (Daily Fantasy Sports) at the Intermediate tracks. His best tracks include Atlanta, Texas and Michigan. (Kevin Harvick ranked 1st in fantasy points scored on the Intermediate Tracks in 2019)

SUPERSPEEDWAY TRACK VALUE (Daytona / Talladega)

Kevin Harvick is a really good driver on the Superspeedways but finishing the races has been a problem for him. Harvick has not finished better than 17th in his last six races on the Superspeedways. He is very good at qualifying (his average starting position is seventh in the last eight Superspeedway races) and he often tries to stay up front. The problem is that most of the wrecks occur when drivers are battling for the lead. That is usually where Harvick is on the track. He will qualify well, run up front and lead laps but his tendency to be in the wrong place at the wrong time makes him a poor fantasy pick at Daytona and Talladega. (Kevin Harvick ranked 28th in fantasy points scored on the Superspeedways in 2019)

FLAT TRACK VALUE (Richmond / Phoenix / Martinsville / Loudon)

Kevin Harvick has always been known as one of the best drivers on the short tracks. He used to be the “King of Phoenix” but that title has worn off some in recent years. Phoenix only ranks as his 11th best tracks over the last two years. That does not mean he is no good in the desert. Harvick has not finished outside the top 10 at Phoenix since 2013. As good as he is at Phoenix; Harvick is just as good at Richmond. He is a top-10 machine every time the Cup Series competes at that track. His best Flat track is Loudon. Harvick has won the last two races in New Hampshire and three of the last five. Harvick needs to be on all fantasy teams at Richmond and he will have a lot of fantasy value at Phoenix and Richmond too. There are better choices for your fantasy team at Martinsville. (Kevin Harvick ranked 4th in fantasy points scored on the Flat Tracks in 2019)

STEEP TRACK VALUE (Bristol / Dover / Darlington)

Kevin Harvick did not have a good season at Bristol but he was good at Dover and Darlington. Harvick finished 13th and 39th in his two races in Thunder Valley. He finished fourth in the two races at Dover and fourth in the race at Darlington. Bristol has been one of the worst tracks for Harvick in recent years so definitely fade him at the Bullring. The Hendrick Motorsports drivers are better choices for your fantasy team at Dover, but keep an eye on him in practice at Darlington. He knows how to tame the Track Too Tough to Tame if the setup is right. (Kevin Harvick ranked 12th in fantasy points scored on the Steep Tracks in 2019)

ROAD COURSE TRACK VALUE (Sonoma / Watkins Glen / Roval)

Kevin Harvick is one of the best Road Course drivers in the sport. He scored the second-most fantasy points at these tracks last year and he could do it again in 2020. He should be at the top of your list of drivers when the Cup Series travels to Sonoma. The California native has finished sixth, second, first, sixth and fourth at Sonoma since joining Stewart-Haas Racing. Harvick has competed in two races on the Charlotte Roval. He finished third and ninth in those races. Harvick has been decent at Watkins Glen but I would rather have Chase Elliott and Martin Truex Jr. at that track. (Kevin Harvick ranked 2nd in fantasy points scored on the Road Courses in 2019)

Best Tracks to for Kevin Harvick.: 1) Loudon, 2) Indianapolis, 3) Atlanta, 4) Michigan, 5) Texas
