Fantasy NASCAR Preview for Kansas

Facebooktwitter

The NASCAR Cup Series will join the Truck Series at Kansas Speedway this weekend. This is always one of my favorite races on the schedule because it is my home track. I will not be able to attend the race Sunday, but I do plan to go to the playoff race at Kansas. It will suck to miss the Truck Series race Saturday night. It is always one of the best races on the Truck Series schedule. I will never forget when I worked for Fox Sports and I was in the pits when Kyle Busch wrecked Austin Dillon. Richard Childress then found Rowdy after the race at Kansas and pounded knots on his head. Now Busch drives for Richard. Oh, how things change….

KANSAS SCHEDULE

NASCAR will have a condensed schedule this weekend. The Truck Series will practice and qualify Saturday afternoon and then they will race Saturday night. The Cup Series will practice and qualify Saturday evening and then race Sunday afternoon. NASCAR uses this schedule so that the Cup Series drivers do not need to leave North Carolina until Saturday morning and they can fly home Sunday evening.

Here is the schedule for the races at Kansas…

RACE RECAP AT KANSAS

The Cup Series last raced at Kansas in the playoffs, last September. Christopher Bell won the pole. The No. 20 car led the first 15 laps, finished 3rd in Stage 1, 10th in Stage 2 and 8th in the race. Martin Truex Jr. had a tire go down on lap 9. He hit the wall and it ended his day. Truex finished dead last. William Byron spun out late in Stage 1 and he was really not a factor in the race. Kyle Larson took over the race after the Truex wreck. Larson led 99 laps, won Stage 1 and finished 4th in the race. Bubba Wallace was running 2nd when he had a tire go down (The second for a Toyota car). Wallace looked really good until he broke a toe-link. Brad Keselowski used pit strategy to gain track position and win Stage 2 (go figure… that is what the No. 6 team always does). Denny Hamlin took over the race in the last Stage. He led 63 of the 102 laps in the final Stage. Tyler Reddick ran up front all day, but he was not able to take the lead until Chris Buescher had a tire go down and hit the wall with only 7 laps left in the race. Reddick was able to outrace Hamlin to the checkered flag in an overtime finish at Kansas.

The best drivers in the race were Kyle Larson, Denny Hamlin, Tyler Reddick, Chase Elliott, Christopher Bell, Bubba Wallace, Brad Keselowski and Erik Jones

Stage 1 Results: 1. Kyle Larson, 2. Bubba Wallace, 3. Christopher Bell, 4. Ross Chastain, 5. Ryan Blaney, 6. Tyler Reddick, 7. Denny Hamlin, 8. Brad Keselowski, 9. Chase Elliott, 10. Kevin Harvick

Stage 2 Results: 1. Brad Keselowski, 2. Denny Hamlin, 3. Chase Elliott, 4. Kevin Harvick, 5. Tyler Reddick, 6. Erik Jones, 7. Ryan Blaney, 8. Joey Logano, 9. Chris Buescher, 10. Christopher Bell

FANTASY PREVIEW FOR KANSAS

I know I starting to sound like a broken record, but the race at Kansas should be dominated by the drivers from Hendrick Motorsports and the Toyota’s. There have been two races this year on 1.5-mile tracks. Kyle Larson won the first race (Las Vegas) and Chase Elliott won the other race (Texas). These two drivers also had the 3rd (Larson) and 4th (Elliott) best Driver Rating at Kansas last year. Tyler Reddick finished 2nd at Las Vegas and 4th at Texas. He also won the last race at Kansas. These three drivers should be at the top of your list this week. It is hard to count out William Byron, Denny Hamlin, Martin Truex Jr. or Christopher Bell at the 1.5-mile tracks. I would be surprised if the winner did not come out of this list of drivers this week.

This is not the week to save allocations in the Fantasy Live and Driver Group Game. The race at Kansas is one of the easier races to predict. The top drivers from Hendrick Motorsports and Joe Gibbs Racing have a history of dominating the races in the Heartland. We need to use them in our lineups this week.

FANTASY STATS FOR KANSAS

There have been four races in the Gen-7 car at Kansas. Most of these races have been dominated by the same drivers. I doubt that will change this weekend. I used the data from the four races at Kansas and added in the data from the race at Las Vegas earlier this season for the Driver Rankings this week. The race at Texas last month was a mess, so I am not going to use the data from that race to handicap the race at Kansas.

Here are the top drivers from the four races at the Kansas in the Gen-7 car and the race earlier this season at Las Vegas, sorted by Driver Rating…
