Fantasy NASCAR Preview for Texas

Facebooktwitter

The NASCAR Cup Series will join the Xfinity Series and the Truck Series at Texas Motor Speedway this weekend. This will be the second race for the Cup Series on a 1.5-mile track in 2024. They just raced at Las Vegas Motor Speedway last month. The Gen-7 car has produced so of the most exciting racing on the intermediate tracks. Texas used to be one of the worst tracks on the schedule, but the Gen-7 car changed everything. I expect another good race at Texas Motor Speedway.

TEXAS SCHEDULE

Friday will be a busy day at Texas Motor Speedway. The Truck Series and Xfinity Series will have a short practice before they qualify for their races. The Truck Series will race Friday night and the Xfinity Series will race Saturday afternoon. The Cup Series will practice and qualify for their race Saturday morning. The Cup Series is scheduled to race Sunday afternoon on FS1

Here is the schedule for the races at Texas…

RACE RECAP AT TEXAS

NASCAR last raced at Texas last September. Bubba Wallace won the pole and he dominated the first half of the race. Wallace led 111 laps and finished third in the race. There were a lot of lead changes and a lot of wrecks in this race. 13 drivers were able to lead laps in the race and there were 22 lead changes at Texas in 23. Kyle Busch, Martin Truex Jr., Alex Bowman, Aric Almirola, Daniel Suarez, Ryan Blaney and Corey LaJoie were all involved in wrecks. Most of the wrecks were because of flat tires. Kyle Larson wrecked while battling Bubba Wallace for the lead. Believe it or not, the wreck was not Bubba’s fault. Kyle Larson, Tyler Reddick and Bubba Wallace had the best cars all day, but William Byron was able to take the lead with six laps to go and went to Victory Lane.

Stage 1 Results: 1. Tyler Reddick, 2. Chris Buescher, 3. Christopher Bell, 4. William Byron, 5. Michael McDowell, 6. Chase Elliott, 7. Ryan Blaney, 8. Chase Briscoe, 9. Denny Hamlin, 10. Bubba Wallace

Stage 2 Results: 1. Kyle Larson, 2. Bubba Wallace, 3. Denny Hamlin, 4. Ryan Blaney, 5. Chris Buescher, 6. Chase Elliott, 7. Brad Keselowski, 8. Ross Chastain, 9. Bubba Wallace, 10. Daniel Suarez

FANTASY PREVIEW FOR TEXAS

The cream typically rises to the top at the 1.5 mile tracks. I want to play the drivers from Hendrick Motorsports and Joe Gibbs Racing in most of my season-long lineups (Fantasy Live and the Driver Group Game). The last seven drivers to win on the intermediate tracks are Kyle Larson (Las Vegas 2024), Christopher Bell (Homestead 2023), Kyle Larson (Las Vegas 2023), William Byron (Texas 2023), Tyler Reddick (Kansas 2023), Ryan Blaney (Charlotte 2023), Denny Hamlin (Kansas 2023) and Denny Hamlin (Las Vegas (2023). That is three wins for Hendrick Motorsports and four wins by Joe Gibbs Racing alliance cars. I plan to stick to the Hendrick Motorsports and the Toyota’s this week, but that could change after practice.

FANTASY STATS FOR TEXAS

I typically look at track history when I am handicapping a race, but this week is different. There are a lot of variables that have changed since the last race at Texas. The race was moved from September to April, so the track will be cooler and have more grip. Two of the three manufacturers will have news cars (Toyota’s and Fords) and we will have a new tire for the race this week. I will use the data from the two races at Texas using the Gen-7 car and combine it from the intermediate track at Las Vegas this year to predict which drivers will run up front Sunday.

Here are the stats from the two races at Texas Motor Speedway in the Gen-7 car and the race at Las Vegas last month, sorted by Driver Ranking…
