The NASCAR Cup Series travels to Dover International Speedway Sunday. There will not be as much data for this race as there typically is. I usually use some of the stats from Bristol to predict this race because both tracks are high-banked, concrete, short-tracks. Bristol was turned into a dirt track race this year, so I doubt much of that information will help Sunday. There is still some information we can use to predict the Drydene 400…
The Cup Series ran a double-header at Dover last year. The drivers competed in a race on Saturday and then the top-20 finishing cars were inverted for another race on Sunday. We can use that information, plus the data from the other races using the 750 HP aero package at Dover.
Here are the stats you need to know for the Drydene 400…
Driver Rating at Dover (2019 – 2020)
Driver Rating is always a good stat to use because it incorporates a little bit of everything throughout the race and paints a picture of which drivers had the fast cars. Dover is a rhythm race-track. Drivers need to find the right time to get into the gas pedal and when to get into the brakes at the Monster Mile. The drivers with the best Driver Rating should be up front Sunday.
Green Flag Passes at Dover (2019– 2020)
NASCAR did not provide the “Fastest Late in a Run” stat this week because Dover does not wear out tires like Darlington. They did provide the “Green Flag Passes” stat. Martin Truex Jr. said after the race last year, “Passing was incredibly tough today. You had to be really patient with your car because you were not going to driver right by someone. You had to be strategic and setup every pass you made.” Passing will be tough again this week, so this stat shows the drivers who can make their way throw the field Sunday.
Laps Led at Dover (2019 – 2020)
This is good information to know if your Fantasy NASCAR league awards bonus points for leading a lap during the race. It is also good information to help you determine the dominators for your DFS contest.
Fastest Laps at Dover (2019 – 2020)
This is good information to know for building your DraftKings lineups. The game awards .45 points per fastest laps run, so you want drivers on this list in your lineups.
