The 2021 NASCAR Cup Series will compete at Richmond Raceway Sunday. This will be the third race of the season on a short, flat track (Phoenix and Martinsville are the others) and the fourth race on an oval using the 750 HP aero package (Bristol Dirt Race was the other race in the 750 aero package). We can use a lit bit of the data from each of these races to predict which drivers will run up front Sunday, but Richmond is a unique track so we must focus on the drivers with a history of running well at this track.
The 2021 season has been dominated by Joe Gibbs Racing, Team Penske and Hendrick Motorsports. That is not going to change this week. Joe Gibbs Racing and Team Penske have won 9 of the last 10 races at Richmond. The other was won by Kyle Larson (now with Hendrick Motorsports).
