The NASCAR Cup Series drew for the starting lineup Thursday evening. I factored where each driver starts the race and the location of their pit stalls into my final rankings. I also talked to a crew chief and asked him how the change from a March to a June race would affect the track at Homestead. He said the track will be hot and slick giving the cars less grip. Also, he expects the tire wear to be a lot greater than what we have seen in the past at Homestead. That is the reason why Goodyear decided to bring the same time used at Darlington to the track. He expects the track to be very similar to what we saw at Atlanta. I put a little more emphasis from the Atlanta race into my final rankings.
Each week I post my Driver Rankings for the race. This is not necessarily my prediction of how each driver will finish the race, but each driver’s fantasy value for the race. I use the past stats, practice speeds, starting position, information from the garage and momentum to determine who has the best cars for the race.
Here are my rankings for Homestead…
