The Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series will compete this week at Daytona International Speedway. The race Saturday night will be the third race on the Superspeedways. The races are fun to watch but they can be difficult for your fantasy team. The “Big One” can easily take out all of your drivers. All fantasy players can do is select the best team possible and cross your fingers.
I had one of my best races of the season in the Daytona 500. I selected three drivers who started outside the top 30 (Martin Truex Jr. started 35th, Ryan Blaney started 36th, AJ Allmendinger started 38th) and two drivers who started 15 or worse (Joey Logano 15th and Kyle Busch started 21st). My team earned 83 position differential points and scored 248 points. I will use the same strategy this week.
The scoring format for Fox Fantasy Auto Racing rewards drivers who improve their position in the race a lot more than the drivers who lead the most laps. I would not recommend starting any drivers who start in the top 15. You must earn as many position differential points as possible Saturday night.
I am going with three Toyotas starting outside the top 15. Kyle Busch, Denny Hamlin and Martin Truex Jr. should work in the draft to make their way to the front together. AJ Allmendinger and Ty Dillon start deep in the field and provide the team a lot of position differential points.
Do not worry about spending the entire salary cap this week. It is not important.
Here are my picks for the Coke Zero 400….
Driver 1: Kyle Busch $11,300 (Starts 16th)
Driver 2: Denny Hamlin $10,800 (Starts 18th)
Driver 3: Martin Truex Jr. $10,000 (Starts 25th)
Driver 4: Ty Dillon $7,200 (Starts 34th)
Driver 5: AJ Allmendinger $6,900 (Starts 27th)
Good luck this week!
