The Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series will compete this week at Texas Motor Speedway. This is the second race of the Round of 8. The newly paved surface should provide fast speeds and competitive racing Sunday. It will be fun to see who will join Kyle Busch in the Round of 4 at Homestead.
The scoring format for Fox Fantasy Auto Racing rewards drivers who improve their position in the race a lot more than the drivers who lead the most laps. Selecting drivers who start in the back is very important this week.
Qualifying made it very easy to select your drivers for the Fox Fantasy Auto Racing game. The only lineup that should be used consists of four drivers who failed to qualify their cars Friday. These drivers are Chase Elliott, Matt Kenseth, Joey Logano and Trevor Bayne. They should be paired with the driver who led 148 laps in the April race at Texas and has a fast car this week (Ryan Blaney). There is little risk and all reward in using this lineup Sunday.
The drivers I selected this week do not have to finish up front in order for my team to score well. They just need to finish near their average on 1.5-mile tracks. Here is how it breaks down…
Chase Elliott: Starts 34th – Average Finish Pos. is 7th. (34 points for finishing 7th + 27 PD point = 61 Total Points)
Matt Kenseth: Starts 35th – Average Finish Pos. is 12th. (29 points for finishing 12th + 23 PD points = 52 Total Points)
Joey Logano: Starts 36th – Average Finish Pos. is 13th. (28 points for finishing 13th + 23 PD points = 51 Total Points)
Ryan Blaney: Starts 8th – Average Finish Pos. 9th. (32 points for finishing 9th – 1 PD point = 31 Total Points)
Trevor Bayne: Starts 37th – Average Finish Pos. 17th. (24 points for finishing 17th + 20 PD points + 44 Total Points)
* PD means Position Differential
If these drivers only perform as well as their average finishing position on the 1.5-mile tracks this season, the lineup should score 239 points. I think they will outperform their average and score over 250 points Sunday.
Here are my picks for the Texas….
Driver 1: Chase Elliott $12,000 (Starts 34th)
Driver 2: Matt Kenseth $11,100 (Starts 35th)
Driver 3: Joey Logano $9,000 (Starts 36th)
Driver 4: Ryan Blaney $9,100 (Starts 8th)
Driver 5: Trevor Bayne $8,500 (Starts 37th)
Good luck this week!
