There are many unknowns heading into the 2019 season. Many of those questions will be answered this week.
The Xfinity Series and Gander Outdoors Series will test at Atlanta Motor Speedway on January 28th and 29th. JR Motorsports will be testing their Xfinity Series cars, while Kyle Busch Motorsports will be testing their trucks. The test is free for fans and the gates will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day.
The MENCS teams will test at Las Vegas Motor Speedway on January 31st and February 1st. The drivers who are scheduled to take part in the testing session include: Jimmie Johnson, Kyle Busch, Kurt Busch, Brad Keselowski, Ryan Newman, Austin Dillon, Clint Bowyer, David Ragan, Ryan Preece, Paul Menard, Landon Cassill, Ross Chastain and Drew Herring. The test will be open to the public and free of charge. The gates open Thursday and Friday at 8 a.m. and close at 6 p.m.
The test session at Las Vegas Motor Speedway will be the first time teams will be able to try out the new aerodynamics package for the 2019 season. The cars will have less horsepower, a larger spoiler (from 2.375 inches to 8 inches), lager front splitter (from 1 inch to 2 inches) and air-duct to create more airflow through the car. This means there will be more drag on the cars and the leader will not be able to drive away from the field.
The information we receive from the test session will be critical in helping us figure out our fantasy lineups early in the season. I will post any lap times I receive and any information the drivers pass on about their cars.
The start of the 2019 season will be here soon!
