Introducing Fantasy Live 2018 (NASCAR.com)

Facebooktwitter

The NASCAR season is approaching fast. Fantasy players have some decisions to make this year. Some of the most popular Fantasy Auto Racing games (Yahoo and Fox) pulled out of the sport and some new websites decided to fill the void. One site that will be back in 2018 but with a much different product is NASCAR.com.

Fantasy Live has always been my favorite game and the one I had the most success at. My picks finished inside the top 100 for three consecutive seasons. Extending my streak to four years will be a challenge because the rules will be much different in 2018.

* If you have concerns about the new game, take a deep breath and let me explain it to you. It will not be as complicated as you think. FantasyRacingTips.com will be here to assist you throughout the season.

I had a conference call with the people who run the Fantasy Live game for NASCAR.com. Here is what I learned…

Roster Setup

Fantasy players will select 5 Starting Drivers for their team each week. The selections DO NOT carry over from week-to-week so you will be required to update your team before each race. Each driver can be used 10 times throughout the NASCAR season, so use your drivers wisely! (If you need any help knowing which tracks to use each driver at, please be sure to visit FantasyRacingTips.com to get the best Fantasy NASCAR advice on the Internet).

Garage Driver

In addition to the 5 Starting Drivers, each team will select 1 Garage Driver for their team. So what is the purpose of the Garage Driver?

The Garage Driver can be substituted for any of your 5 Starting Drivers before the last Stage begins. If you use your Garage Driver in the race… You Will lose one of your 10 allocations with this driver but you will NOT lose one of your 10 allocations with the driver you replaced him with.

This is important so please pay attention….. Your team will only score points with the 5 drivers who are on your team at the end of the race. So what does this mean?… If you do not use your Garage Driver in the race your team will earn points from the 5 drivers you started and finished the race for your team. If you DO use your Garage driver, you will earn points for the 4 drivers who started and finished the race for your team and the Garage Driver you used as a replacement. You will NOT earn points from the driver you took out of your starting lineup.

*If you have any questions about this please ask in the member’s forum or on my Fantasy NASCAR Facebook Page.

Bonus Driver

Fantasy teams were allowed to select a driver they thought would win the race last year in order to score bonus points. The scoring in Fantasy Live will be similar this year but a few more categories have been added. Each team can select Four Bonus Drivers and the Manufacturer they think will win the race. Here are the Bonus Drivers you are allowed to select…

Pole Winner: Fantasy teams can select the driver they think will win the pole. If this driver does win the pole, your team will earn 5 Bonus Points. This driver does not have to be the same as one of your 5 Starting Drivers and it does not need to be the same as your Garage Driver. Fantasy teams will not lose one of their 10 allocations with the driver they choose to win the Pole unless this driver is in your lineup at the end of the race. You must make this pick before the qualifying session for NASCAR begins in order to be eligible for the 5 bonus points.

Stage 1 Winner: Fantasy teams can select the driver they think will win Stage 1. If the driver you choose does win Stage 1 your team will earn 10 Bonus Points. This driver does not have to be the same as one of your 5 Starting Drivers and it does not need to be the same as your Garage Driver. Fantasy teams will not lose one of their 10 allocations with the driver they choose to win Stage 1 unless this driver is in your lineup at the end of the race.

Stage 2 Winner: Fantasy teams can select the driver they think will win Stage 2. If the driver you choose does win Stage 2 your team will earn 10 Bonus Points. This driver does not have to be the same as one of your 5 Starting Drivers and it does not need to be the same as your Garage Driver. Fantasy teams will not lose one of their 10 allocations with the driver they choose to win Stage 2 unless this driver is in your lineup at the end of the race.

Winning Driver: Fantasy teams can select the driver they think will win the race. If the driver you choose does win the race your team will earn 30 Bonus Points. This driver does not have to be the same as one of your 5 Starting Drivers and it does not need to be the same as your Garage Driver. Fantasy teams will not lose one of their 10 allocations with the driver they choose to win the race unless this driver is in your lineup at the end of the race.

Winning Manufacturer: This is the same as last year. Fantasy teams can select the manufacturer of the car they think will win the race. If the manufacturer you choose does win the race your team will earn 10 Bonus Points.

* The Bonus Drivers and Manufacturer do not carry over from week-to-week. Fantasy teams will have to make a selection before each race in order to be eligible for these points.

Scoring for Fantasy Live

The scoring for Fantasy Live 2018 will be a lot different from what we have seen in the past. There will no longer be bonus points for Leading Laps or Position Differential. This is a huge game changer from what we have seen before. Be sure to visit FantasyRacingTips.com before the Daytona 500 to get my Strategy for taking advantage of the flaws in this game.

Finishing Position: Each driver will earn points based on where they finish the race. The winner will receive 40 points. 2nd-place earns 35 points, 3rd-place earns 34 points, 4th-place earns 33 points and so on… The drivers who finish 36th – 40th earn 1 point each.

Stage Points: Drivers will earn points based on where they finish in Stage 1 and Stage 2. If a driver finishes the stage in 1st-place he will earn 10 points. 2nd-place earns 9 points, 3rd-place earns 8 points, 4th-place earns 7 points and so on… The Bonus Points from your driver’s finishing positions in Stage 1 and Stage 2 are added together to give your team your total Stage Bonus Points for the race.

More Information about Fantasy Live

I asked the followers on my Fantasy NASCAR Facebook Page if they had any questions for me to post to NASCAR. Here are the answers to some of those questions…

  • Why should I change my Garage Driver for one of my starters when the Garage Driver does not count towards my final score? Actually the driver you take from the Garage Position and place into the race will earn points towards your team. You will forfeit the points from the driver you are replacing (Stage Points), but you will earn the points from the 5 Drivers who are in your lineup at the end of the race. Also you will ONLY lose allocations from the 5 Drivers who are in your lineup at the end of the race.

  • Why is the season only 26 weeks long (Daytona 500 – Indianapolis 400)? NASCAR said they want to introduce a new game for the NASCAR Playoffs. They are still undecided on the format for the new game but player input will help influence their decision. Things they are considering for the NASCAR Playoff Game include: Carrying over points from the regular season to the Playoff Game, adding Laps Led and/or Position Differential Points. No decisions on these games have been made yet.

  • Will my league from last year carryover to the 2018 season? When you login to the site your old league should be listed.

  • Why no more Laps Led or Position Differential Points? NASCAR wanted to keep the scoring for their game as similar to the scoring the drivers receive in the real race as closely as possible. So if Martin Truex Jr. wins the race and both Stages he will earn 60 points from NASCAR and 60 points for your Fantasy team.

The 2018 Fantasy Live Game is now open. Go to NASCAR.com to create your league today.
