NASCAR Driver Rankings for Gateway

The Cup Series travels to “The Gateway to the West” this week when they compete at World Wide Technology Raceway (Gateway). This is race No. 15 on the schedule. That means there 12 races left in the regular season. We typically see some new teams find speed over the summer. I expect there will be some new drivers up front as the tracks heat up. It is tough to get excited about a intermediate, flat track racing in the Gen-7 car, but maybe we will get lucky this week. The Enjoy Illinois 300 can be seen Sunday at 3:30 p.m. ET on FS1.

This will be the third season that the Cup Series has raced at Gateway. The track is a 1.25-mile, flat track. The closest track in size and length to Gateway is Phoenix, but a lot has changed in the Cup Series since they raced in the desert. So what do we do this week? Do you focus our picks on the drivers who have run well in the two races at Gateway (small sample size) or focus on the drivers who ran well on the intermediate, flat tracks this year (Phoenix and Richmond). I am combining the data from the races at Gateway with the data from the two intermediate, flat track races this year. I am giving a little extra weight to the stats from the race at Richmond since it is the last race for the Cup Series on a flat track.
