NASCAR Driver Rankings for Texas

The Cup Series will travel to the Lone Star State this week to race at Texas Motor Speedway. This race was moved from late September to early April on the schedule. The track conditions will be cooler and the track will have more grip. That is good news for race fans. The Gen-7 car has been at its best on the 1.5-mile tracks and I expect another exciting race in Texas. The Autotrader EchoPark 400 can be seen Sunday at 3:30 p.m. ET on FS1.

Everything is bigger in Texas, right? Well, that used to be the case with the Cup Series races at Texas Motor Speedway. The races at Texas used to be 500 miles long, but were slimmed down to 400 miles. I think this is a good thing. We have the Coca-Cola 600 coming up next month for the people who love marathon races. We do not need another 4 ½ hour race Sunday.

The more things change, the more they stay the same… The Toyota’s and the cars from Hendrick Motorsports have been the best on the non-Superspeedway tracks this year. I doubt that will change this week. William Byron won at Texas last year. Tyler Reddick won in 2022. Kyle Larson has led the most laps in the Gen-7 car at Texas and Bubba Wallace has led the second-most laps. Denny Hamlin finished both races at Texas in the top-10. The race Sunday should be a battle between the Hendrick Motorsports and the Toyota’s this week.

We cannot ignore what happened at Las Vegas last month. The Toyota’s and the Fords have a new car this year, so their stats from Las Vegas should tell us how strong they will be at Texas this week. I used the Driver Ranking and the Average Running Position at Las Vegas last month. I combined that data with the driver’s stats at Texas last year and the stats from the two races using the Gen-7 car in the Lone Star State. I also added in the Driver Rating from the last four races on the 1.5-mile tracks (Las Vegas (2024), Las Vegas (2023), Texas (2023) and Kansas (2023). This should give us enough data to handicap the race Sunday.
