The Cup Series will travel to Dover this week to try and tame the “Monster Mile”. This is a high speed track that most drivers say is like riding a roller coaster. The racing is usually pretty good if Goodyear brings a tire that rubbers in the concrete track and produces some falloff during the race. Will we get a new driver in Victory Lane at Dover? There are a group of drivers who typically dominate the races at Dover and most of them have a win this season. It will be fun to watch though. The Wurth 400 can be seen Sunday at 1 pm ET on FS1.
ONE & DONE CONTESTS
This pick is for games where you can only use a driver once throughout the season.
CHASE ELLIOTT will be my pick in games where you can only use a driver once. I originally had Alex Bowman penciled in for the pick this week, but he is out for 3-4 weeks from an injury he suffered from his sprint car race. I will pivot to Elliott. I heard Steve Latarte (who has a lot of knowledge about Hendrick Motorsports) say this week, “There is no track like Dover. Most teams will not put as much effort in their cars as the No. 5 team this week. This is Hendrick’s playground and Elliott needs a win. I expect HMS to put a lot of work into the No. 9 car to get Chase to Victory Lane.” I believe him. Elliott was fourth-fastest in practice with the second-fastest long run speed. Elliott win this race last year and he is my pick to win Sunday (or whenever they race).
ONE & DONE (REGULAR SEASON/PLAYOFF GAMES)
This pick is for games where you are allowed to use a driver once in the regular season (the first 26 races) and then you can use them again in the playoffs, if your team advances in the playoffs. We only need 26 drivers in these games so we can be a bit more aggressive with our picks. Here are my picks for games that reset at the end of the regular season…
KEVIN HARVICK will be my pick in games where you can only use a driver once in the regular season. I thought about saving Harvick for Michigan because he won the last two races in the Irish Hills, but the No. 4 team is on a hot streak right now. I will use Harvick while he is stacking top-10 finishes. He is also really good at finishing up front at Dover. Harvick finished 9th, 6th, 1st, 4th, 4th, 4th, 6th and 1st in his last eight races at the Monster Mile. He is almost a lock for a top-10 finish with the upside to win the race Sunday.
ONE & DONE (USE A DRIVER MORE THAN ONCE)
I play in a game where I can use a driver three times throughout the season. I know some of you have told me you can use your drivers twice. We will only need 18 drivers in these games, so we do not need to dig too deep with our picks. Here is my pick in games where you can use a driver more than once….
KYLE LARSON will be my pick in games where you can use a driver more than once. Larson has been the best driver on the oval tracks this year. He finished second at Las Vegas, fourth at Phoenix and he won at Richmond and Martinsville. That is an average finishing position of second-place and he has led 387 laps in those races (Most in the Cup Series). So, will that success translate into a win at Dover? Larson has a great chance to win Sunday, so I will use him Sunday.
Good luck Sunday!
