The Cup Series will travel to Navy Base Coronado this weekend for the first ever race on a military installation. NASCAR and its fans have been waiting a long time for this race. The initial race on the streets of Chicago was also highly anticipated, but the heavy rain ruined the weekend. It does not look like that is going to be the case right outside of San Diego. This should be a good race to celebrate Father’s Day and watch Shane van Gisbergen put on a show.
Here are the picks for the race for the race Sunday at Navy Base Coronado…
ONE & DONE CONTESTS
This pick is for games where you can only use a driver once throughout the season.

CONNER ZILISCH will be my pick in games where you can use a driver once throughout the season. I wanted to use Shane van Gisbergen but I used him at Watkins Glen. I thought about using Michael McDowell but his best track is next week at Sonoma. I will pivot to Zilisch. I sure in the hell am not using Zilisch on an oval track right now. Zilisch finished 14th at COTA and he looked good at Watkins Glen but his pit strategy did not go his way. Zilisch looked fast in practice and he starts 8th Sunday. This may be the best chance to use Zilisch this year.
ONE & DONE (REGULAR SEASON/PLAYOFF GAMES)
The picks for the Regular Season / Playoff Games are rest this week. There are some One & Done Contests that reset when the playoffs start. That means you only need to use 26 Drivers for the regular season and then 10 drivers for the playoffs. We can be more aggressive in these types of One & Done Contests.

AJ ALLMENDINGER will be my pick in games that reset at the end of the regular season. We have to use Allmendinger on a road course this year. I typically use him at the Charlotte Roval, but now it is the Charlotte Oval. Allmendinger is not great in Sonoma, so this should be our last chance to use Allmendinger in the One & Done Contests. Allmendinger finished 9th at COTA and 7th at Watkins Glen this year. He has a good chance to finish in the top-10 at Navy Base Coronado.
ONE & DONE (USE A DRIVER MORE THAN ONCE)
There are some One & Done games that are not really “One & Done.” I play in a league where you can use a driver twice and another league where you can use a driver three times during the season. The picks posted below are for these types of contests (I am going to base these picks on being able to use a driver twice during the 2025 season).

SHANE VAN GISBERGEN will be my pick in games where you can use a driver more than once during the 2025 season. This may be the easiest pick of the season. Some of the Cup Series drivers have a chance to compete with SVG on the road courses that have been on the schedule for a long time because they have a lot more experience than he does. The playing field in level this week and that is a big problem for the rest of the drivers. SVG should quickly figure out this course and put on a show on Father’s Day. SVG is easily the best pick in the field Sunday.
