NASCAR One & Done Pick for Talladega

Facebooktwitter

The Cup Series has reached the second race in the Round of 12. This is race number 31 on the schedule and that means we have used 30 drivers in the One & Done contests this year. The race Sunday at Talladega is a good time to take a chance with a driver who typically finishes outside the top-20. There are going to be some big wrecks at Talladega. That will bring the drivers who run in the back into play this week. Here are my picks for the YellaWood 500 at Talladega…

ONE & DONE CONTESTS

This pick is for games where you can only use a driver once throughout the season.

AUSTIN CINDRIC will be my pick in games where you can use a driver once throughout the season. He has not been very good this year, but Team Penske and the other Fords have dominated the Superspeedway races in 2023. Cindric won the Daytona 500 last year and he finished ninth in the race at Talladega last year. I will take a chance with Cindric and hope he follows Ryan Blaney and Joey Logano to the front Sunday.

ONE & DONE (REGULAR SEASON/PLAYOFF GAMES)

The picks for the Regular Season / Playoff Games are rest this week. Hopefully I was able to navigate your picks so that you were able to make the playoffs. I know some people play in games that reset their allocations for the playoffs (meaning you can use any driver you want) and others continue in the playoffs, but you still cannot use the drivers you used in the regular season. I will provide picks for both styles of games.

RYAN BLANEY will be my pick in games that reset for the playoffs. Blaney finished second in this race last year and he finished second at Talladega last April. He has three wins at the Superspeedways on his resume (two at Talladega and one at Daytona). I would not be surprised to see the No. 12 car in Victory Lane Sunday.

TODD GILLILAND will be my pick in games that do not reset for the playoffs. Gilliland starts 17th. He will run around the back for most of the race and then finish in the top-10 when the checkered flag is waived. That is what he does at this track. Gilliland finished 10th at Talladega in April and 7th last October. I will take a chance with Gilliland Sunday.

ONE & DONE (USE A DRIVER MORE THAN ONCE)

I play in a game where I can use a driver three times throughout the season. I know some of you have told me you can use your drivers twice. We will only need 18 drivers in these games, so we do not need to dig too deep with our picks. Here is my pick in games where you can use a driver more than once….

ERIK JONES will be my pick in games where you can use a driver more than once. Jones has finished 6th, 6th, 6th and 9th in his last four races at Talladega. He has also scored Stage Points in five of the eight Stages in those races and led laps in three of the four races. Jones should lead some more laps Sunday, score some Stage Points and have a good chance to finish in the top-10.

Good luck Sunday!
