NASCAR One & Done Pick for Talladega

The Cup Series will travel to Talladega this week for another Superspeedway race. This will be the third race on a Superspeedway in 2024 (Daytona and Atlanta were the other two). Usually the races at Talladega are crazy, but the race Sunday may be calm compared to what we had last week at Texas. I still expect some major wrecks and some unexpected drivers to finish up front at Talladega. The GEICO 500 is scheduled for Sunday at 3 p.m. ET on FOX (the weather forecast does not look too good though ☹).

I knew I was going jinx Kyle Larson as soon as I picked him for all of my One & Done lineups. He was dominating the race when a wheel fell off the car. Are you kidding me? Wow, that was some shitty luck. Hopefully the Fantasy NASCAR Gods reward us with some better luck at Talladega because we are going to need it this week.

Here are the picks for the GEICO 500 ….

This pick is for games where you can only use a driver once throughout the season.

JUSTIN HALEY will be my pick in games where you can use a driver once throughout the season. We need to use a driver who does not have a good chance to finish in the top-10 on the smaller tracks, but has had some success on the Superspeedways. That driver is Haley. Only four drivers have finished on the lead lap in the last five races at Talladega (Ryan Blaney, Chase Elliott, Kyle Busch and Justin Haley). His ability to stay out of trouble has allowed him to finish 6th, 19th, 15th and 12th at Talladega in the Gen-7 car. Talladega is the best track for Haley, so I will take a chance with the No. 31 car Sunday.

There are some One & Done Contests that reset when the playoffs start. That means you only need to use 26 Drivers for the regular season and then 10 drivers for the playoffs. We can be more aggressive in these types of One & Done Contests.

ERIK JONES will be my pick in games that reset at the end of the regular season. I do not want to use one of my top drivers this week, so I will take a chance with “That Jones Boy.” He has finished five of his last six races at Talladega in the top-10. Jones also finished 8th in the Daytona 500 this year. He worked well with Denny Hamlin and Christopher Bell in the draft at Daytona. I expect Jones to work well with his Toyota teammates this week. Jones should have a decent chance to finish in the top-10 again at Talladega.

There are some One & Done games that are not really “One & Done.” I play in a league where you can use a driver twice and another league where you can use a driver three times during the season. The picks posted below are for these types of contests (I am going to base these picks on being able to use a driver twice during the 2024 season).

KYLE BUSCH will be my pick in games where you can use a driver more than once during the 2024 season. I really wanted to use Ryan Blaney in this spot, but I need to save the No. 12 car for the smaller tracks. Busch has not been good at the smaller tracks, but he has been excellent at the Superspeedways. Busch won this race last year. He has also finished on the lead lap in the last six races at Talladega. Rowdy came inches away from winning at Atlanta. Maybe a trip to Talladega is what he needs to get back to Victory Lane in the Cup Series.

Good luck Sunday!
