The 2018 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series will be competing at Martinsville Speedway this week in the STP 500. Short track racing tends to be unpredictable. A driver could lead 150 laps and then get dumped at the end of the race and finish outside the top 25. That is what happened with Denny Hamlin last year. I plan to save my top drivers for more predictable tracks.
Here are my picks for Martinsville…

Ryan Newman is known as the hardest driver in NASCAR to pass. Martinsville is known as the hardest track in NASCAR to make a pass. When you combine the two, Newman becomes a very good pick this week. His average finishing position in the last five races at Martinsville is 11th. Newman was 5th fastest in final practice with the 4th fastest 20-lap average speed. I will gladly take an 11th-place finish or better from Newman this week and save my top drivers for other tracks.
I am not as worried about saving drivers in the games which allow you to use a driver more than once. For that reason I will use Brad Keselowski. He won this race last year and he has been the 2nd-most dominant driver at Martinsville of the last four races.
Good luck this week!
