NASCAR One & Done Picks for Talladega

Facebooktwitter

The NASCAR Cup Series will take a break from intermediate track racing and head to the high banks of Talladega Superspeedway this week. This is the perfect race to take a chance on a driver you have no interest in using at the smaller tracks. Superspeedway racing is a complete crapshoots and any driver can finish in the top 10. The GEICO 500 can be seen Sunday at 3 p.m. ET on Fox.

Last Race: Using Tyler Reddick was the right decision last week. The No. 8 car ran 97% of the laps in the top 5. I really thought he had a chance to win but his car was only fast at the top of the track. We needed a good race after the disaster at Martinsville and we got it. Now we are going to need a lot of luck at Talladega.

Here are my picks for the GEICO 500…

My One & Done Pick for Talladega: Corey LaJoie

We have to take a chance with a lower-funded driver this week so we can save our top drivers for the smaller tracks. I will take a chance with Corey LaJoie at Talladega. LaJoie finished 7th and 11th in the two races at Talladega last year. He also finished 8th and 18th in his last two races at Daytona. GO FAS Racing has an alliance with Stewart-Haas Racing in 2020. LaJoie will have one of the back-up cars from SHR at Talladega last year. That should mean more speed than he has had in the past at the track.

I will use Aric Almirola in the games where you can use a driver more than once. He is my pick to win the race at Talladega. Almirola has completed every lap in 9 of the last 10 races at Talladega. Are you freaking kidding me?!! Almirola has finished 4th, 9th, 1st, 7th, 5th, 4th and 8th at Talladega in his last 7 races at the track. He “should” be the safest pick in the field this week.

Good luck this week!
