The 2018 MENCS season kicked off last week and it marked the first race for the Slingshot Fantasy Auto Contest. Are you still playing this game? I have heard from a lot of people that they gave up on the Slingshout Fantasy Auto Contest. I can understand that. I know people do not like to wait a week to see how they scored. I will continue to make picks though.
My initial strategy for this week was to select Kevin Harvick and hope he could score the 20 bonus points for winning the race. I was not expecting some of the best drivers at this track to qualify in the back so my strategy had to change.
Martin Truex Jr. (Starts 35th) and Jimmie Johnson (Starts 22nd) must be on every team Sunday. The game awards 2 points for every position a driver improves in the race. I expect Truex to move up at least 25 positions and Johnson to move up 10 positions. That is 70 bonus points from 2 drivers. It is difficult to pair Harvick with these two drivers so I will pick all drivers from the back this week.
The third driver for your team should come down to Chase Elliott (Starts 27th) and Ryan Blaney (Starts 26th). I have no idea why Elliott is so slow this weekend. He has run outside the top 25 in all practices and he starts 27th. Blaney started the weekend slow but found a lot of speed on Saturday. Blaney was top 5 on the 15-lap and 20-lap speed chart. That is really important at Atlanta.
The Dillon brothers are good picks to improve their position by 8-10 spots Sunday. Austin Dillon Starts 25th) said at the end of final practice, “That setup from the 31 car (Newman) really helped. I can drive it a lot better now.” Ty Dillon (Starts 28th) is always good for 8-10 spots in a race. He may be the worst qualifier in the field, which really makes him a good pick in this scoring format.
Here are my picks for the Atlanta….
Driver 1: Martin Truex Jr. $12,700 (Starts 35th)
Driver 2: Jimmie Johnson $11,300 (Starts 22nd)
Driver 3: Ryan Blaney $11,000 (Starts 26th)
Driver 4: Austin Dillon $7,900 (Starts 25th)
Driver 5: Ty Dillon $7,000 (Starts 28th)
Good luck this week!
