This is one of those unique weeks when we get to see two MENCS practices before our lineups need to be set at 8 a.m. ET Saturday. I saw a few things from the drivers that made me want to make some changes from the lineup I posted Monday. Here is my updated Driver Group Game lineup for the Monster Mile…
There are three good choices for Group A. Kevin Harvick and Martin Truex Jr. are the safe picks and Kyle Larson allows you to save an allocation. I went with Harvick and Larson. The No. 42 was fastest in final practice and he was fastest on the 5, 10 and 25-lap average speed charts. Larson finished 3rd at Dover in May and a win would really help him advance in the playoffs.
Kevin Harvick was nearly as fast as Larson in Final Practice. The No. 4 car posted the 3rd fast lap and Harvick posted the fastest speed on the 15 and 20 lap average speed chart. Harvick led 488 laps in the last 3 races at Dover. He should lead a lot more Sunday.
I really like the Hendrick Motorsports cars this week. Jimmie Johnson has 11 wins at the Monster Mile and he posted top-five speed on every speed chart in both practices. Alex Bowman finished 2nd last week and 2nd in the last race at Dover. The No. 88 car also posted the 3rd fastest speed on the 10-lap average speed chart. William Byron is my pick to win the pole and score some bonus points for your Driver Group Game team. Chad Knaus has chosen to set the No. 24 car up to qualify up front and give Byron the track position he needs. He posted the fastest lap in qualifying trim in the first practice.
I will pair Ryan Blaney with the Hendrivk Motorsports drivers. The No. 12 car has run better on the tracks were the 750 HP aero package has been used than in the races with the 550 HP aero package. Blaney posted the 10th fastest 10-lap average speed and the 9th fastest 20-lap average speed in final practice. I will take a chance with Blaney Sunday.
The only good choice in Group C is Matt DiBenedetto. I hate to use another allocation with the No. 95 car but I may not have any other choice. DiBenedetto posted the 6th fastest speed in final practice with the 11th fastest 10-lap average speed. He will have a good chance to finish in the top 12 Sunday.
Chris Buescher had a lot of problems with a tight racecar in final practice. He did not even make a 10-lap run. I do not want to be tempted to use him if he qualifies well so I will use Ty Dillon as my second driver in Group C. The No. 13 car has run better on the shorter tracks so this is a good week to take a chance with Dillon. He finished 22nd in the first race at the Monster Mile.
Good Luck This Week!
