Updated Driver Rankings for Auto Club

The Cup Series is set to start their “West Coast Swing” Sunday with a race at Auto Club Speedway. NASCAR schedules the races on the west coast early in the season because the weather is typically nice in California during this time of year. That is not the case this weekend. The Cup Series practice and qualifying was washed out so the starting lineup was set “per the rule book.” That means some of the fastest cars will start deep in the field and some of the worst cars will start up front. This should be interesting.

The Cup Series cars have not been on the track, but that does not mean I did not change the driver rankings did not need some adjustments. I texted some people who work in the garage and I talked to my friend Micah Roberts (sports director at Caesars Pallace) and they all agree the Chevy’s should be the cars to beat. I gave the Chevy’s a slight bump in the rankings. I also moved some of the drivers who I really liked early in the week (Tyler Reddick, Erik Jones and Williams Byron) back a bit based on their starting position. I still like these drivers, but they have a lot of traffic to navigate and that increases their chances of getting involved in a wreck.
