Updated Driver Rankings for Darlington

The NASCAR Cup Series heads back to Darlington Raceway to end their regular season. Crew Chiefs often preach to their drivers to “race the racetrack and not the competition” at Darlington. The drivers can easily get into the wall if they overdrive their car and take their focus off of the track. Most of the drivers have their season on the line this week. Some are battling for the regular season championship and others are racing for a spot in the playoffs. It is tough to ignore your competition and focus on the track this week. That means this race could get wild, but it will be fun to watch. The Southern 500 can be seen Sunday at 6 p.m. ET on USA Network.

The Cup Series were back to their normal practice schedule this weekend. The drivers practiced and qualify Saturday. The teams were split into two groups and each group had 20 minutes to shake down their cars for the race. The drivers then line up for qualifying to set the field for each race.

Tire falloff is huge at Darlington, so the drivers who can maintain their speed over a long run are the drivers we want in our lineups Sunday night. Be sure to look at the 10-lap average speed when determining what drivers to use in the Southern 500.
