Yahoo Fantasy Auto Racing Picks for Auto Club Speedway

The most popular game in fantasy racing may be the Yahoo Fantasy Auto Racing game. It is the game I have been playing the longest and the one I enjoy predicting the most. I will be looking for a bounce-back race after blown tires sank my team in Phoenix.

Here are my picks for the Auto Club 400…

Kevin Harvick (8): No driver ran the bottom of the track as well as Harvick in Final Practice. It kind of reminded me of how he ran the track at Atlanta (Harvick led 292 of the 325 laps in that race). Harvick was 8th fastest with the 5th-best 15-lap average speed in practice. The No. 4 team really wants to win this race since they know they will be without their crew chief next week. If they win at Auto Club, next week’s race will not matter as much.

Group A Rankings: 1) Kevin Harvick, 2) Martin Truex Jr., 3) Brad Keselowski, 4) Denny Hamlin, 5) Jimmie Johnson, 6) Kyle Busch, 7) Joey Logano, 8) Matt Kenseth, 9) Dale Earnhardt Jr.

Kyle Larson (8): The No. 42 car is running too well right now to worry about saving allocations. Larson starts from the pole this week and is almost guaranteed 10 bonus points for leading a lap. Auto Club Speedway is one of Larson’s best tracks. He 5th-fastest in Final Practice and he was on old tires.

Jamie McMurray (8): Chip Ganassi Racing really found some speed over the offseason and McMurray would be a bigger story in Group B if his teammate (Kyle Larson) was not running so well. McMurray finished 10th at Atlanta, 8th at Las Vegas and 15th at Phoenix. The No. 1 car had the second-fastest 15-lap average speed in Final Practice.

Group B Rankings: 1) Kyle Larson, 2) Jamie McMurray, 3) Chase Elliott, 4) Clint Bowyer, 5) Ryan Blaney, 6) Kurt Busch, 7) Kasey Kahne, 8) Ryan Newman, 9) Aric Almirola, 10) Austin Dillon, 11) Trevor Bayne, 12) Paul Menard, 13) AJ Allmendinger, 14) Danica Patrick, 15) Ricky Stenhouse Jr., 16) Chris Buescher

Erik Jones (7): I was really hoping to use Ty Dillon this week and save an allocation with Jones, but the No. 77 car is fast enough to win this race Sunday. Jones was 4th-fastest in Final Practice with the fastest 15-lap average. Jones said after practice it is the best car he has had all season.

Group C Rankings: 1) Erik Jones, 2) Daniel Suarez, 3) Ty Dillon, 4) Michael McDowell, 5) Landon Cassill, 6) Matt Dibenedetto… do not even think about the rest.

Good luck this week!
