The Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series competes at Bristol Sunday. This is the 24th race of the season and there are 12 races remaining after today’s race. It is very important to save allocations whenever you can. You need to use your allocations wisely and the Night Race at Bristol is a good place to keep your top drivers on the bench.
Here are my picks for Bristol…
Martin Truex Jr. (4): This could be the last time Truex Jr. has anything to race for until the championship race at Homestead. If the No. 78 car scores enough points Saturday night they will clinch the regular season championship and the 15 bonus points that go with it. They will also have enough playoffs points to make it to Homestead with a 25th place finish in every race. I am using an allocation with Truex since I know he will race hard this week. The Toyotas are fast and Truex led 116 laps in the April race.
Group A Rankings: 1) Matt Kenseth, 2) Denny Hamlin, 3) Martin Truex Jr., 4) Kyle Busch, 5) Jimmie Johnson, 6) Kevin Harvick, 7) Joey Logano, 8) Brad Keselowski, 9) Dale Earnhardt Jr.
Ricky Stenhouse Jr. (7): I have to give Stenhouse Jr. a chance this week. This is his best track and he was fast in practice. Stenhouse has a top-10 average finishing position in his 9 races at Bristol. I am going to start him and save an allocation with my more popular drivers.
Chase Elliott (5): Elliott has been fast all weekend and he usually runs well at Bristol. The No. 25 team said that the best car Hendricks Motorsports had in their garage. I would not be surprised if Elliott won his first race Saturday night.
Group B Rankings: 1) Chase Elliott, 2) Kyle Larson, 3) Clint Bowyer, 4) Jamie McMurray, 5) Ricky Stenhouse Jr., 6) Ryan Blaney, 7) Ryan Newman, 8) Kasey Kahne, 9) Austin Dillon, 10) Kurt Busch, 11) Chris Buescher, 12) Trevor Bayne, 13) Paul Menard, 14) AJ Allmendinger, 15) Aric Almirola, 16) Danica Patrick
Erik Jones (2): I was planning on using Jones for qualifying points only and then he goes out and wins the pole. It is a tough decision but I am going to pull the trigger and use an allocation with Jones this week. We may never get a chance to use Jones when he runs in the top 5 in practice, has the 3rd-best 10-lap average speed and starts from the pole.
Group C Rankings: 1) Erik Jones, 2) Daniel Suarez, 3) Ty Dillon, 4) Matt Dibenedeto, 5) David Ragan
Good luck this week!
