The Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series competes at Pocono Raceway this week. Allocations are becoming more important now that the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series has complete 13 races. I decided to keep the two best drivers off my team this week (Martin Truex Jr. and Kyle Larson). I expect both of these drivers to run well Sunday, but I cannot use them every week.
Here are my picks for the Pocono 400…
GROUP A
Brad Keselowski (6): The No. 2 team has had some bad luck the last two races, but he should get back on track this week. He looked fast in practice and Keselowski qualified 6th. He has run a lot better in the races then where he qualified so far this year. Races at Pocono often come down to fuel mileage. Keselowski will be the favorite to win if this race requires drivers to save fuel. Keselowski is my pick to win Sunday.
GROUP B
Kurt Busch (8): Pocono is one of the best tracks for Busch. He has finished 6 of the last 8 races at the Tricky Triangle in the top 10. Busch won this race last year and the No. 41 car looks fast again this week. He starts 5th and should finish in the top five Sunday.
Ryan Blaney (7): The last Group B pick came down to Ryan Newman, Chase Elliott and Ryan Blaney. Newman is a good option and should finish in the top 12 this week but I like Elliott and Blaney more. Both of these drivers have had bad luck the past two weeks but I think they will turn it around. I went with Blaney over Elliott because he starts 21 positions ahead of Elliott.
GROUP C
Ty Dillon (6): My choices for Group C are Erik Jones and Ty Dillon. I picked Erik Jones for qualifying points only this week and it did not work out. Jones will start the race from the 15th position. I will save an allocation with him and use Dillon for the race Sunday. Dillon should get some help this week by driving the Xfinity Series race. The No. 13 car should finish inside the top 20.
* I do not trust Darrell Wallace Jr. in his first race. If you selected him for your team I would save him for another race.
** If you need to know which driver I like more this week, simply look at my driver rankings.
Good luck this week!
