Driver Rankings for Watkins Glen

NASCAR is back after a 21 day break because of NBC prioritized covering the Olympics over covering NASCAR. I am also back after a trip to Mount Rushmore, Yellowstone National Park and Grand Teton National Park. It is not often I get a three week break during the summer so I decided to take advantage of it. Now it is time to refocus and get ready for the final 14 races of the season.

NASCAR will make the trip to Western New York for the first time since 2019. The Covid virus prevented the Cup Series from competing at this road course last year so the rookies the past two seasons do not have any experience in a Cup Series car at this track. It shouldn’t be a problem though. Tyler Reddick, Christopher Bell, Cole Custer, Ross Chastain and Chase Briscoe have all run well on the road courses this season. They should be able to figure out this track in the 750 HP aero package rather quickly.

I am not making this race more complicated than it needs to be. I used the Driver Rating, Average Finishing Position and Average Speed from the four road course races (Daytona Road Course, COTA, Sonoma and Road America) for my rankings this week. I did give a little more weight to the race at Road America since that is the last road course race and it is the most similar track to Watkins Glen.
