Early Week Driver Rankings for Martinsville

Facebooktwitter

The Cup Series returns to the site of the greatest moment in the history of NASCAR (In my opinion). Ross Chastain needs points in the final laps at Martinsville last year so he did the unthinkable and the “Hail Mellon” was born. We will not see a driver ride the wall like Chastain did in this race last year, but there should be plenty of drama to keep you entertained. The Xfinity 500 can be seen Sunday at 2 p.m. ET on NBC.

Martinsville is a unique track. It is a .526-mile paperclip-shaped, flat track. The drivers need a car that can roll the corners and the drivers must be able to out-brake the completion getting into the corners. There really is an art to driving this track and some drivers do it better than others.

I used the stats from the race at Martinsville in April. A lot has happened since that race, but the drivers who were good at Martinsville in the spring, should be good Sunday. I also used the data from the three races at Martinsville in the Gen-7 car and combined it with the data from the short, flat track races in 2023 (Richmond and New Hampshire). This should give us an idea of which drivers will be able to run up front at Martinsville.

Here are my early week driver rankings for the Xfinity 500 at Martinsville…
