NASCAR Driver Rankings for Charlotte

The Cup Series will have another home race at Charlotte Motor Speedway. It will be another trip around the Roval as the drivers compete in the last race in the Round of 12. This will be the fifth road course race for the Cup Series. I still do not understand why NASCAR had to bring back the Roval for next year, but that is an argument for another day. Hopefully the Gen-7 car will put on a good show this weekend and build some excitement heading into the Round of 8 next week. The Bank of American Roval 400 can be seen Sunday at 2 p.m. ET on NBC.

This track is unique. The crew chiefs need to bring a setup that will allow the car to turn left and right through the road course section of the track, but also have some speed in the banking of the traditional track. Some crew chiefs have figured out how to get a good balance in their car better than others.

So, how do we handicap this race? I am using the stats from the last two races on the Charlotte Roval since this is a unique track and some drivers have performed better than others on the Roval. We need the drivers with good road course skills, so I will be looking at the data from the four road course races this year (COTA, Sonoma, Chicago and Watkins Glen). The drivers who have run well on the road course this year and have a history of running up front at the Charlotte Roval will be at the top of my rankings this week.
