NASCAR Driver Rankings for Chicago

The Cup Series race in the streets of Chicago was supposed to be a big party last year. Mother Nature was not a fan of street course racing, so all of the concerts and celebrations leading up to the inaugural race were canceled. The race was also delayed for over an hour and shortened because of darkness. Hopefully the race this weekend can be the celebration that NASCAR was looking for last year. The race was pretty exciting last year and I expect the same this weekend. The Grant Park 165 can be seen Sunday at 4:30 p.m. ET on NBC.

The Chicago Street Course is unlike any other road course on the schedule. Shane van Gisbergen proved that last year when he won the race. SVG had a lot of experience on road courses and it was the first time for most of the Cup Series stars. It is also hard to learn much from last year’s race since it was delayed by rain and shortened by darkness. NASCAR’s decision to end the race at lap 75 really screwed the stats for some of the best drivers in the race (Christopher Bell) and made their performance look bad, when they were actually some of the best drivers in the field. I will still use the stats from last year’s race and add in the stats from COTA and Sonoma this year for the Driver Rankings for Chicago.
