NASCAR Driver Rankings for Darlington

The Cup Series will travels to Darlington Raceway for another intermediate track race. How would you like to be Darlington on the schedule and have to follow the race at Kansas? That was one of the best races I have ever seen. Pretty much all of the intermediate track races have been pretty good in the Gen-7 car era. I expect the same at Darlington this weekend. The Goodyear 400 can be seen Sunday at 3 p.m. ET on FS1.

Darlington is a unique track. It is a 1.366-mile, egg-shaped track with high-banking (25 degrees in the corners) and a surface that wears out tires fast. Dover is the closest track in size and banking, and Homestead is the closest in surface, but it is hard to simply use the data from those races to handicap the race at Darlington. Drivers have to be a master at managing their tires, searching the track for grip and riding up against the wall. There are a handful of drivers who have had a lot of success at this track, so we need to focus our picks on track history this week.

There have been four races at Darlington in the Gen-7 car. I used the stats from those races for the rankings this week. I added a little extra weight to the two races last year in the rankings, since the teams were still trying to figure out the Gen-7 car in 2022. I also added in the stats from the race at Kansas last week and Dover last month so we have some data from this season’s cars in the rankings.
