Updated DFS Golf Picks for Sentry T.O.C.

Facebooktwitter

The DFS PGA Tour Picks were posted Tuesday night and I never felt so confident about my lineups as I did for the Sentry Tournament of Champions (Sentry T.O.C.). People say that when something is too good to be true, it probably is. That is exactly what happened with the DFS lineups for this week….

One of the golfers I was highly invested in this week was Xander Schauffele. He has dominated at the Plantation Course at Kapalua. Schauffele woke up Wednesday morning with back pain so he W/D from the Pro-Am event scheduled for Wednesday. Mark Rolfing of the Golf Channel reported, “Xander Schauffele has been dealing with back pain for over a month. He thought he could play through the pain, but it flared up over night. Schaufflele is going for an MRI and then he will see how he feels Thursday morning.”

Xander Schauffele is still scheduled to play but most of the golfers who have play Kapalua have said it is the hardest course on tour to walk. Even if Schaufflele plays, there is no garauntee he will finish. If that isn’t enough, the Golf Channel also reported that Schaufflele is switching to new clubs this week. He just made the switch two weeks ago.

That is too much bad mojo for me. I am switching the lineups because I like to reduce my risk when I play DFS contests. There is a chance that Xander Schaufflele will play and finish at the top of the leaderboard, but also a chance he scores you zero points. I will play it safe this week so here are my new lineups…

START: JON RAHM (3), JUSTIN THOMAS (3), SUNGJAE IM (3), COLLIN MORIKAWA (3)

BENCH: BRIAN HARMAN (3), SEAMUS POWER (3)

This is the first tournament of Segment 2. There are 10 tournaments included in Segment 2, including THE PLAYERS Championship in March.

** I know some people will not want to use their top golfers this early in the season, but Jon Rahm, Justin Thomas and Xander Schaufflele have a better chance to finish in the top-five this week than they do in full-fielded events. I will take the “almost” guaranteed points.

** The game switched to the PGA Tour App at the beginning of Segment 2. Be sure you have the PGA TOUR App downloaded so you can continue to play. I found the game listed under “my profile” on the app.

SEASON LONG ONE & DONE PICK: Seamus Power (Sentry T.O.C.)

If you are one of those people who want to save your top golfers for the majors and the FEDEX Cup Playoffs, take a chance with Seamus Power. He enters the tournament with as much momentum as anyone in the field after finishing 5th, 3rd and 1st in his last three tournaments on the PGA Tour. He also finished 15th in his Sentry T.O.C. debut last year, but it could have been much better if he did not shoot a 71 in round 1. He followed it up with rounds of 65-69-67. Power will have more course knowledge this week.

Players Used This Season in One & Done: Brian Harman (2nd), Maverick McNealy (27th), Emiliano Grillo (42nd), Nick Hardy (28th), Terrell Hatton (13TH) Christian Bezuidenhout (29th), Cameron Davis (37th), Denny McCarthy (39th), Brendon Steele (CUT)

* A popular place to play a PGA Tour One & Done game is at Fantasy National Championships. The games on their site run from the Sony Open (Jan. 12th) through the Tour Championship (Aug. 24th). I will post picks for this game this year.

BEST BETS SENTRY T.O.C.

Justin Thomas (9-1)

Victor Hovland (18-1)

Sungjae Im (20-1)

Long Shot Special: Max Homa (30-1)

* It is smart to bet the favorites at the Sentry T.O.C. Seven of the last eight winners opened the tournament with odds of 15-1 or greater: Cameron Smith (20-1), Harrison English (30-1), Justin Thomas (5-1), Xander Schauffele (15-1), Dustin Johnson (7-1), Justin Thomas (12-1), Jordan Spieth (4-1) and Patrick Reed (15-1). That is an average odds of 13-1.

Good Luck This Week!!!!
