The Xfinity Series will join the Cup Series at Iowa Speedway this weekend. While this is the first trip to Iowa for the Cup Series, the Xfinity Series is no stranger to this track. They competed in Iowa from 2006 – 2019. The track was partially repaved since 2019, so it will be different this week. It should be an exciting race in the Heartland. The Hy-Vee Perks 250 seen Saturday at 3:30 p.m. ET on USA (Yes, USA and not FS1. Make sure you are on the right channel this week).
PRACTICE AND QUALIFYING AT IOWA
The Xfinity Series will have the same schedule at Iowa that they had last week at Sonoma. The teams got a 50-minutes Friday afternoon to dial in their cars for Saturday’s race. Iowa Speedway is a 7/8-mile track, so most of the teams were able to make a long run in practice. We need to consider the single lap and 10-lap average speeds for the picks Saturday, since there tends to be 7-8 cautions in the races at Iowa.
Here are the lap times from the practice at Iowa Speedway Friday afternoon…

Qualifying was canceled, so the field was set “per the rulebook.”
DRAFTKINGS POINTS AT IOWA
It has been a while since the Xfinity Series has raced at Iowa Speedway. There are some drivers in the field who have experience at this track, but most of the field is seeing it for the first time. The most similar track to Iowa Speedway is Richmond Raceway. We can look at the data from Richmond to help predict the race Saturday. Phoenix Raceway is shaped a lot different than Iowa Speedway, but the two tracks are similar enough to factor in the data from Phoenix too.
Here are the stats from the races at Phoenix Raceway and Richmond Raceway, sorted by DraftKings Points….

STRATEGY FOR IOWA
The race at Iowa Speedway is scheduled for 250 laps. That means there are 62.5 points available for leading laps and 112.5 points available for fastest laps (175 total dominator points). The trend in the Xfinity Series races at Iowa is for one driver to lead 100 laps and score 36 fastest laps (41.2 dominator points). Another driver leads 80 laps and scores 34 fastest laps (35.3 dominator points). A third driver leads 30 laps and scores 18 fastest laps (15.6 dominator points).
The lineups was set “per the rule book” so that means there are going to be a lot of good drivers starting deep in the field. I plan to select one (maybe two) dominators who start up front and pairing them with the good drivers who start in the back.
The drivers with the best chance to score dominator points today includes Chandler Smith, Justin Allgaier, John H. Nemechek and Austin Hill
The drivers with the best chance to score place differential points include Ross Chastain, Brett Moffitt, Corey Hiem, Brandon Jones, Jeb Burton, Daniel Dye, Josh Williams and Joey Gase
